The Obscene Bird of Night
The Obscene Bird of Night: A Novel | José Donoso, Leonard Mades
2 posts | 7 read | 17 to read
The story of the last member of the aristocratic Azcoitia family, a monstrous mutation protected from the knowledge of his deformity by being surrounded with other freaks as his companions, The Obscene Bird of Night is a triumph of imaginative, visionary writing. Among its luxuriance, fecundity, horror, and energy will not soon fade from the reader's mind.

Pulling out a few of my own books to read throughout the year since I borrowed most things I read last year 😬. I also have a pile of first in a series books since I want to get into at least one new series this year.

Today's author spotlight: José Donoso! He's considered one of Chile's top authors & an influential figure of the 1960s-70s Latin American literary boom. Born in Santiago, he died there in 1996 at 72. He attended Princeton, where his first English-language short stories were printed in its newspaper, and lived in Spain for some years. Bird's considered his magnum opus--written over 7 years of psychotic bouts. #AuthorPotpourri #TheMoreYouKnow
