There's no place like home, especially if it's Serenity, South Carolina. For Annie Sullivan, though, the homecoming is bittersweet. She'd always envisioned a life there with her childhood best friend, Tyler Townsend. But Ty's betrayal has cost her the family and the future they'd once planned. For Ty, losing Annie was heartbreaking. Still, he can't imagine life without the three-year-old son whose mother left him for Ty to raise. Ty wants it allAnnie, his child and the future he'd dreamed aboutand he's back home in Serenity to fight for it. But getting Annie to forgive and forget may be the hardest challenge he's ever faced. With the stakes so high, this is one game he can't afford to lose.

Mehso-so

Between a so-so and a pick. The first half is a bit repetitive with the “will they get back together” drama, but the second half is more interesting and has more character growth. Would have liked the side plot of Helen taking care of her mother to be fleshed out further. But, given that my current reading mood is either fluff or “capitalism is horrible,” this is pleasant enough fluff (as long as I don‘t think about how problematic some of it is).

“‘Don‘t thank me. And, if I were you, I wouldn‘t try to stick your foot in the door so she can‘t slam it. You‘ll just have another serious injury to recover from before you can go back to playing ball.‘
Ty chuckled. ‘I‘ll definitely keep that in mind.‘
The truth was, though, that he‘d risk an injury if it meant getting through to Annie.”

“‘Knight in shining armor,‘ she murmured.
‘What?‘ Erik asked.
‘You‘re mine.‘
Though he still sounded faintly bemused, Erik pulled her close. ‘Indeed I am,‘ he whispered. ‘All yours.‘
Content for the first time in her very long day, Helen went back to sleep.”

“She stood on tiptoe and gave her father a kiss. ‘Thank you. You‘re the best.‘
‘Always nice to hear. Now, go. Make things right with Ty.‘
‘That might be a tall order, but at least maybe I can fix whatever went wrong tonight.‘”

“Not that she was quite ready to test her newfound conviction against her mom‘s concern. She slipped past the living room, where Dana Sue was watching the Food Channel, and headed straight for her room. Denial, she‘d discovered long ago, was a whole lot easier in private.”

“For the first time in her life, she understood why her mom, Maddie and Helen had stayed so close over all these years. Friends like these, who stuck together through thick and thin, were worth their weight in gold. It was about time she appreciated that for the blessing it was.”
