The Jean Genie was the first single to be released off Aladdin Sane album, peaking at number 2 in the UK chart.
The protagonist of the song is American rock star and good friend of Bowie, Iggy Pop. Pop made his name with the Stooges during the late 60s and early 70s emerging from that same group of artists such as MC5 and Velvet Underground.

TrishB Bowie produced the Stooges seminal Raw Power album and went on to produce Lust For Life and The Idiot albums during their 'Berlin years' and toured playing piano for Iggy. He also covered Pops 'China Girl' ( originally on The Idiot album) for his Let's Dance album and had a hit single with his cover version.
