The Autobiography of Gucci Mane
The Autobiography of Gucci Mane | Gucci Mane, Neil Martinez-Belkin
The highly anticipated memoir from Gucci Mane, one of hip-hops most prolific and admired artists (The New York Times). For the first time Gucci Mane tells his story in his own words. It is the captivating life of an artist who forged an unlikely path to stardom and personal rebirth. Gucci Mane began writing his memoir in a maximum-security federal prison. Released in 2016, he emerged radically transformed. He was sober, smiling, focused, and positivea far cry from the Gucci Mane of years past. Born in rural Bessemer, Alabama, Radric Delantic Davis became Gucci Mane in East Atlanta, where the rap scene is as vibrant as the dope game. His name was made as a drug dealer first, rapper second. His influential mixtapes and street anthems pioneered the sound of trap music. He inspired and mentored a new generation of artists and producers: Migos, Young Thug, Nicki Minaj, Zaytoven, Mike Will Made-It, Metro Boomin. Yet every success was followed by setback. Too often, his erratic behavior threatened to end it all. Incarceration, violence, rap beefs, drug addiction. But Gucci Mane has changed, and hes decided to tell his story. In his extraordinary autobiography, the legend takes us to his roots in Alabama, the streets of East Atlanta, the trap house, and the studio where he found his voice as a peerless rapper. He reflects on his inimitable career and in the process confronts his dark pastyears behind bars, the murder charge, drug addiction, career highs and lowsthe making of a trap god. It is one of the greatest comeback stories in the history of music. The Autobiography of Gucci Mane is a blunt and candid accountan instant classic.

Overall, I enjoyed his story. I was left wanting to know more about his family, as he swiftly moves over that part of his life in the beginning of the book. I also wish he would have touched on the ice cream tattoo on his face a little more, as well. I mean we all know him for his music, but we also all know him for that ice cream tattoo that was on his face! Right?!

My TBR for January! What are some of your book goals for the new year?

WomanistBibliophile This year I want to read more Caribbean literature and I‘d like to have more discussions about the books I‘m reading or at least get better at formulating my thoughts about them 😊 6y

I knew nothing about Gucci Mane going into this. I googled him after I finished and discovered he was the one with the extravagant wedding! All you can do is root for him after finishing.

Picked this up based on good reviews and a fabulous cover but no knowledge of the author. No worries as it's a highly entertaining memoir even when read in pure ignorance. Learned many new vocabulary words 😂👵🙋 Oh and apparently know Gucci Mane from the movie Spring Breakers 🎬 #mommyreads #memoir #music #atl

Cinfhen The cover alone is worth checking out this book 😀great review🙌🏻 6y
AmyG He‘s a rapper. 6y

“If you keep looking back you‘re going to trip looking forward” I really enjoyed this book I have such a better understanding of who Gucci Mane is and where he came from he had a hard life however what I admired about him was how he took ownership of his wrong doings and made no excuses. His self awareness honesty and rawness is why I continued to keep reading. #GUWOP #LAFLARE1017

Finished this autobiography during my road trip to Cali this past weekend. Overall a pretty solid book. Definitely written in Gucci Mane‘s voice, but I found that refreshing. I truly felt immersed in his life and he ends with a good “moral of the story.” Will definitely listen to his music differently now that he has provided context.

I found out this was going to be released back in March. I honestly don't like reading autobiographies but Radric Davis was an exception. Before 2017 ended, I had to get my hands on it and I finally did. Much love for you!

Nute He‘s definitely come into his own now. To remain relevant in hip hop music for more than 10 years...he has weathered the obstacle of longevity. I like what he did for trap music back in the day, but I really like his sound now and his work with Rae Sremmurd, Metro Boomin and Migos. 7y
wistfulthinking @Nute Yes! I'm grateful that he shared his story, and is transforming himself. He faced many setbacks but his comebacks were always great. I'm excited to see where he'll go from here. 7y
Luvlivelyfe Yassss this is definitely on my to read list 👏🏾👏🏾 7y
wistfulthinking @Luvlivelyfe Yassss girl! I'm glad to hear you've put it on your list. It was SO good! He's a great storyteller! I definitely grew a better understanding of him after reading this. I'm not a fan of autobiographies, but this one was an exception. 7y

I love music....... I grew up in the south so I have a fondness to trap music..... it makes me a bad feminist I know🤦🏽‍♀️. But something about those base lines and a good twerk session while cleaning my house🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️ it's ok to judge me now!!!!
