Life is reasonably rosy for plus-size ex-pop star turned Assistant Dormitory Director and sometime sleuth Heather Wells. Her freeloading ex-con dad is finally moving out. She still yearns for her hot landlord, Cooper Cartwright, but her relationship with "rebound beau," vigorous vegan math professor Tad Tocco, is more than satisfactory. Best of all, nobody has died lately in "Death Dorm," the aptly nicknamed student residence that Heather assistant-directs. Of course every silver lining ultimately has some black cloud attached. And when the latest murdered corpse to clutter up her jurisdiction turns out to be her exceedingly unlovable boss, Heather finds herself on the shortlist of prime suspectsalong with the rabble-rousing boyfriend of her high-strung student assistant and an indecently handsome young campus minister who's been accused of taking liberties with certain girls' choir members. With fame beckoning her back into show business (as the star of a new kids' show!) it's a really bad time to get wrapped up in another homicide. Plus Tad's been working himself up to ask her a Big Question, which Heather's not sure she has an answer for . . .

I really liked this. This was a lot of fun, but they are as much (or maybe more so) chick lit as mystery, with humour thrown in. And there were parts that made me laugh

Liatrek Love this series ❤️ 2y

This book focused a little more on the development of Heather's personal life, so the mystery wasn't as engaging as the previous books in the series, but I didn't think it was a problem. This was a little more her juggling the 80 million things going on in her life + the mystery thrown at her too and that made it a little more real in my opinion. Yay Heather 🎉💞

Ugh I love Heather Wells. Book starts off with her getting dragged off on a run by her boyfriend, and she HATES running. She's like "I think my uterus just fell out. Who can even enjoy this? This is the worst." The internal dialogue is phenomenal. Meg writes great internal dialogue for all of her characters, but sometimes Heather's is a bit more relatable. #seriousreadingday

Does anyone else have a hard time trusting Goodreads reviews?...I feel like it's a relatively common trend for a lot of people on there to primarily leave reviews only on books they totally hate. Idk maybe I just read trashy books but I can't help but notice that the majority of books I look at on goodreads are constantly flooded with bad reviews bcz of this phenomenon and it's a bummer tbh

MeganB I have definitely given up on Goodreads. 90% of the reviews are soooo far on the hate or love side as to be useless. 20 gifs doesn't tell me if I'll like this book or not!! 8y
Titania I love Goodreads, but I only use it to keep up with the books I've read and to see reviews of trusted friends. My friends give great, honest reviews. I can't stomach reading the bulk reviews, though. There gifs are beyond annoying. 8y
kammartinez I do! I picked up this one book because I liked the premise and it had a high rating, but oh my gods, it was TERRIBLE. I've been scarred for life since :|. 8y

courtney I love goodreads for keeping track of books im reading and want to read but my biggest thing with reviews is a lot of people don't seem to understand storytelling when reviewing books on there. I hate when a great book gets one star "because it's sad." 8y
Owlizabeth GR reviews are horrible! I only use GR to keep track of what I've read. 8y
queerbookreader @MeganB @Titania @kammartinez @courtney @Owlizabeth Do you use any other website that you trust to check out a book's general review before you pick it up? One that isn't as grumpy and biased as goodreads? (does a website like that exist? 🙈) Thank you 💞 8y
Owlizabeth @lemonlime799 Litsy? Before this existed, I usually just went with my gut or book reviews from sites I liked. 8y
MeganB Twitter's probably the closest I have, I get a lot of book recs there, not specifically but if there's something a lot of people are talking about I'll look into it. At this point I've picked up on where my likes overlap with various people I follow's likes, so that's been helpful but maybe not what you're looking for 😕 8y
MeganB I think that's why I used to read a lot of blogs before I was into Twitter. I could read one person (or a couple people's) thoughts in one place and decide if we were compatible 8y
MeganB (My last comment was supposed to be seconding @Owlizabeth) 8y
courtney Definitely Litsy now! For books that aren't reviewed on here as much, I'll check Amazon (😏) or do some deeper digging on Goodreads for more well thought out reviews. It's hard to find trustworthy book reviews! 8y
Titania @lemonlime799 I'd rather look at the reviews on Amazon than the reviews on Goodread (and often do). Not much help for reviews, but I check out Indie Bound monthly to see what's on their Next List. Always good stuff there. 8y
kammartinez Pre-Litsy? Twitter (if an author I liked gushed over a book, that was a recommendation to me), and genre-specific sites like Tor and iO9. And my friends, natch: there was plenty of excited screaming and arm-flailing and threats of friend-divorce if someone wanted to recommend a book. 8y
