Since 1978 the Science Fiction Poetry Association has selected the best long and short poems in science ?ction, fantasy, and horror for its annual Rhysling Awards, named in honor of the blind poet of the spaceways from Robert Heinlein 's The Green Hills of Earth. Often considered the equivalent for poetry of the Nebula Awards for ?ction, the winning poems appear each year in the Nebula Awards anthologies. Now for the ?rst time the Rhysling Winners have been gathered under one cover. This collection presents more than twenty-?ve years of the best poetry in the ?eld of speculative literature.

Hey guys! It‘s (Nov. 3) National Speculative Poetry Day! And it‘s the 60th anniversary of the death of Laika the first living creature in space. She lived for 5 hours.

Check out the post about it on the “SpecPo” Blog (https://specpo.wordpress.com/ ) where the president of the SFPA (Science Fiction & Fantasy Poetry Association) has posted about it. Or the tagged book (your library may have it or be able to get it).

JillR We just got the tagged book this week & my daughter is loving it :) 7y
DivaDiane @JillR Cool! There‘s poetry about Laika on SpecPo. 7y
SkeletonKey I'm working on an illustrated book about animals in space largely inspired by Laika & co. 😂 7y
DivaDiane @SkeletonKey That sounds really interesting. 7y

#MugsTeesTotesSwag #riotgram @bookriot I really don't have much in the way of book themed Stuff. I blame it on my family not gifting me with more! I don't have much of that sort of thing anyway, but I love this tote from the American Library in Paris, which we went to weekly for 2+ years when we lived there and this t-shirt courtesy of the SFPA.
