A Most Improper Magick
A Most Improper Magick | Stephanie Burgis
8 posts | 18 read | 12 to read
At twelve years old, any proper young lady in Regency England should be sitting quietly at home, practising her embroidery and keeping her opinions to herself. But Kat Stephenson is no ordinary young lady. Kat's father may be a respectable vicar, but her late mother was a notorious witch and Kat herself is the newest target of an ancient magical Order. In the first thrilling instalment of "The Unladylike Adventures" of Kat Stephenson, there are highwaymen to foil, sinister aristocrats to defeat and true loves to capture for Kat's two older sisters. This is the first novel in a brilliant new series for girls aged 10+

Not sure what happened... maybe books that weren‘t YA took my attention. I enjoyed this diverse range of genres and age groups. #readingstats #2020reads #grchallenge

Stephanie Burgis (author of Kat, Incorrigible) shared this app & so, of course, I played with it.

This is who I am now.

Edit: Oh. Right. It‘s not in English. I just kept pushing the pink button until I was presented with pictures. And I used context clues. 🤷‍♀️

SexyCajun That‘s super cute. In another language tho lol 5y
monalyisha @SexyCajun Ah! True. I edited it to include my foolproof method. 5y
SexyCajun @monalyisha I mean is that the link to the actual app? 5y
monalyisha @SexyCajun it‘s what Stephanie Burgis shared/what I used. It‘s actually just a website, not an app. It‘s cool because you don‘t have to download anything or provide any personal details or pictures. (edited) 5y

1. “Melmoth“, “Electric Arches“, “The Road to Jonestown: Jim Jones and the Peoples Temple.“

2. I've had so much assigned textbook reading lately. I'm *seriously* craving some fiction. Top of my list is “My Sister, the Serial Killer.“ The next audiobook I have on-deck is A.S. King's newest YA, “Dig.“ The poetry collection waiting for me on my nightstand is “Sad Math.“

3. I rec'd the tagged book to a classmate's 13 yr-old who loved “Harry Potter.“

Klou I love your tradition! ❤ 6y
brandymuses @Klou Thanks! It‘s become one of our favorite days because of this tradition. My kids start planning for it and anticipating it as soon as the end of January hits. It‘s kind of funny because the reality is we buy them books all the time. 6y
Klou @brandymuses that's so great! What a lovely thing to do. 😂 Aaaw, well you can never have enough books! ❤ 6y
CouronneDhiver Poor orange... we‘ll forgive you. 😉🧡😂 6y
Megabooks My dad calls UT orange ugly orange because he went to Vanderbilt. My DVM is from UT, but I don‘t like it either! 6y

This is a review for "Snowspelled" (no Litsy record) by Stephanie Burgis, due out 9.4.17.

It's an adult historical/fantasy novella set in 19th c. Angland. Women are politicians & men, magicians. Cassandra is a rebel-magician who's recently lost her magic & her fiancé; it's up to her to save her society from Elven destruction. The gender flips are fun (e.g. men can be "hopelessly compromised"). It's a quick story (too quick!) with lots of heart.

I follow Steph Burgis on Facebook (& to the ends of the earth). She asked if anyone wanted an ARC of "Snowspelled," her first romantic fantasy novella for adults. I said, "Me, duh." I love her "Kat" books (which are basically like if JK Rowling & Jane Austen had book-babies (magic + regency manners + light romance -- for kids)).

I just started & am already giddy about the combination of carriages, voluminous skirts & trolls. Preparing to swoon.?

Rereading this favorite while waiting for my kids' Spring concert to start. It is our book club book this month and I'm so excited to discuss it.
