Dear friends
Dear friends: American photographs of men together, 1840-1918 | David Deitcher
2 posts | 1 read | 1 to read
A groundbreaking presentation of rarely seen photographs, history, social observation, and pictorial analysis provides an entirely new perspective on male friendship in the nineteenth century and suggests a surprisingly broad-minded attitude toward physical intimacy between men. Also currently reading! The author collects photos of men in intimate portraits back in Victorian age. When I look at this book I get all the happy gay feelz, but back then there was this acceptable concept of extreme passion, sometimes even romantic, within same-sex relationships. Like "I am so overwhelmed with love and appreciation for my dearest darling friend whom I love with my entire being" kind of severe dramatic passion. #nohomotho #right?
