How Full is Your Bucket? is about a boy named Felix, who learns how to regulate his emotions. As well as, becomes aware of how he affects other people. This bucket concept is a metaphor, so this book would be best used during a Read Aloud or Think Aloud to make sure students will understand the story. The figurative language of a metaphor must be pre-teached.

ShardaeP This website gives a thorough definition of a metaphor. Of course, it can be adapted to be more kid friendly. http://www.readwritethink.org/files/resources/lesson_images/lesson975/Defnmetaph...
UDL 9.3 Develop self assessment and reflection: Felix learns how he thinks, speaks, and acts affects his mood.
ESOL Continually monitor students' comprehension: This book is best used with teacher involvement. The bucket concept can be confusing.

amandar I think the topic of this book is very important to teach young kids. Emotional well-being and emotions regulation is way more important to learn about that it is given credit for so this book is different and seems really cute! I like the resource you included, it‘s informational. 4y
SequoiaC123 This book is crucial for students to understand how to appropriately express and regulate their emotions. As teachers, I think we should definitely be teaching kids to to express and regulate themselves appropriately because it is harder to learn how to do that as you get older. Also appropriately expression emotion positively impacts communication skills. (edited) 4y

DrSpalding Read aloud and think aloud yes! This is a wonderful book to include in your behavior/classroom management. Some teachers have little buckets on each students desk or create a bulletin board with buckets for each child. It‘s a great message to share! 4y
ShardaeP @DrSpalding I love the bulletin board of the buckets idea! 4y
DrSpalding Try it! 4y

Each of us has an invisible bucket. When our bucket is full, we feel great. When it‘s empty, we feel awful. Yet most children don‘t realize the importance of having a full bucket throughout the day.

Maya‘s school uses the tagged book as a core philosophy in how to approach education. My bucket is full today as we celebrated her last day, as she heads to middle school a straight A student with a strong sense of respect & kindness towards others.💗

JoScho We used that at our school a few years ago and I swear I told all those kids that were stank that they were kicking my bucket down the road! Such bucket fillers! (edited) 5y
Kaye Good for her ! I bet you‘re so proud of her. ❤️ 5y
alisiakae @JoScho Every day, her school announces the kids that were bucket fillers that day. They have little notecards they can select someone anonymously, and while it is sometimes teachers, they are most often recognized by their peers, for things ranging from helping a friend clean up a spill to providing an encouraging word and hug when someone is sad. It‘s really a wonderful addition, and so easy to incorporate! 5y

This book isn‘t spectacularly written or illustrated, but the message really resonates with kids. Almost all of the K-2 teacher‘s at my kids‘ school use it, and the concept is an easy one to grasp and remind kids of throughout the school year. It‘s a nice little parable.

Confused_child_of_the_universe Ahahaha my guidance counselor read this to our class in elementary school 5y

I adored this book! “How Full is Your Bucket” is realistic fiction (RF) and tells of bucket that sits over each and every one of our heads. When someone is mean or something goes wrong, your bucket becomes less full. But when people are kind and things are making you happy, your bucket begins to fill up! I think this is a approach to try to get younger students to understand that their actions can have profound effects on people. #ucflae3414sp18

Hervela.L Wow! I have to read this book, it sounds very interesting and engaging for young readers. I love when children books have underlining meanings. Great job 6y
DrSpalding Make sure you use the rubric to be sure you are including all of the necessary elements. Your passion for this book that you learned of in the social studies class is well received by me! 6y
Jenniferj11419 Interesting concept with the bucket! It‘s important to keep our “buckets” full of positivity! 6y
