This book has lots of direct language about his diesel and how he lives his life. The book also has lots of pictures and caption that help the reader learn about the authors life. It also has a diagram about how the authors wheelchair works snd all the parts to it.
This book is about the author, Shane Burrow, and he talks about the disease he has and answers questions that a lot of people ask him. It contains information abut hm and his family, the things he likes to do, and how his wheelchair works.
“ What's wrong with you? Absolutely nothing is wrong with me. I'm just a little different!“
“Not So Different“ is an invaluable tool for advancing inclusivity, awareness, and understanding of disabilities. It is an entertaining book that may be educational and entertaining for readers of all ages since it blends humor, personal narrative, and useful information.
Not So Different: What You Really Want to Ask About Having a Disability by Shane Burcaw is a children's literature nonfictional picture book. By answering many of the common and strange questions regarding his life with a disability, Shane demonstrates to readers that he is just as personable, amiable, and humorous as anyone else. Spinal muscular atrophy is an uncommon illness that Shane Burcaw was born with, impeding the growth of his muscles.
“I need help with a lot of things. Luckily, I have great friends and an amazing family.“
This nonfiction book was so amazing to me! I think it would be perfect to have in any classroom library. The picture book answers the questions young children ask Shane Burcaw about his wheelchair and life with Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
Not So Different: What You Really Want to Ask About Having a Disability is a nonfiction auto biography written by Shane Burcaw with photographs by Matt Carr. Shane was born with a disease that makes his body get smaller and weaker as he gets older instead of bigger and stronger. The book provides a light hearted, relatable, and humorous peek into Shane Burcaw's everyday life.
Shane makes great use of humorous narrative and images to open a dialogue with kids about living with spinal muscular atrophy. He points out ways he‘s just like anyone else, and explains some of the things he does to adapt to his body‘s needs. I thought this was a really well done book. Shane knows his audience well! #DisabilitiesRep #PictureBook
Went on a picture book reading rampage recently to make a video for work, and now I am so much further behind on posting reviews 😆
Great children‘s book about a muscular disorder & how people help the author deal with it.
Not the tagged book. This poem was selected as the best in a competition organised by the Football Premier League, hence the reference to cheering for the teams.

I‘ve read this story to my kids several times since we checked it out from the library and it‘s fantastic.
Burcaw talks about being differently abled candidly and with humor, showing us his differences and similarities to able bodied people. Highly recommended to grade schoolers and their adults.
