I saw this amongst a table of Penguin Modern Classics in the pop-up Waterstones book shop at Cheltenham Literature Festival last year. Set in 1913, just prior to Edwardian England disappearing forever as war draws closer.

A group of guests gather at a country house in the days leading up to to the first World War in this “upstairs/downstairs” novel about the end of the Edwardian era.
Julian Fellowes wrote the introduction and tells how this book influenced his own writing of Gosford Park (and eventually Downton Abbey).
I‘ve just started it and (so far) it‘s delightful!
I did a bit of a “library cull” and took some books into my favourite local used bookshop for trade-in credit. I‘m pretty pleased with my finds - they‘re all books that have been on my “want list” for ages! Have you read any of these?
