This is the 10th Pendergast novel and the 1st in the Helen trilogy. In this one, Pendergast realizes 12 years later that his wife, Helen, was murdered not just accidentally eaten by a lion 🦁

Book #10 in the Pendergast series. We did ally learn about Pendergast‘s wife in this book, after only hints so far. And what a story it is! It dies leave some loose ends, so I can‘t wait for the next book to see how those things fare. This was a good read though - a lot happens, and it‘s very entertaining.
In FEVER DREAM, a side of Pendergast is revealed that has never been seen before as the mystery of his wife's death becomes all consuming to him - twelve years after the fact. What I love about the PENDERGAST series as a whole is how Preston and Child pull their plots together. And the intricacies of the mysteries themselves, some elements seemingly coming from nowhere and out of left field, are endlessly fascinating.
November reads. December is a free month, I‘m done with all of my challenges and can read what I want!
Decided to get back into this series; this is the last one I remember reading so since it's the beginning of the Helen trilogy I figured I ought to reread it before going forward. The opening is dynamite but it did get slow to me for a bit before racheting up in the last third. I'm not sure everything came together (esp. the meaning behind the painting) but it reminded me what I loved about these characters so I'm excited to keep going!
#bookhaul from my last trip to #hpb. I sold 3 bags of books as well! Really excited to start reading the Pendergast series again! I used to love these and read through Fever Dream when my grad school induced reading slump started; by the time I really got on a reading roll again I felt like I was too far behind. But I heard these mentioned on Reading Glasses recently and decided it was worth going back to.
Perfect lazy Saturday reading. Always enjoy following Agent Pendergast on a case.
I enjoyed this book. I found my attention wandering, however, at times. The action seemed to consistently happen at a high pace; the descriptions were of high quality but the nonstop action was tiring. I believe there could have been more descriptions of the characters or background stories explaining the fast-paced action especially the motivations of Pendergast. Overall an enjoyable read but too action-heavy for me.
If I have a guilty reading pleasure, it's the Agent Pendergast series. Suspense is not usually my thing, but I absolutely love these books, and this one delivered. True, they spend just a little too much time describing everyone's firearms, and the action can get a little gory at times, but the story was exciting and the narration, by René Auberjonois, was spot on.
