I first read this when it came out in 1984. I really enjoyed it (as well as her other books). Back then, as a teen, I didn't even blink at the thought of a women president and yet, here we are, almost 25 years later, it still hasn't happened.

Anyway, I really liked this reread and it's been updated. I'm looking forward to reading, for the first time, the next three books.

Going through my shelves and finding my first Ellen Emerson White. Young love indeed.

ROMANCE IS A WONDERFUL THING is sadly not in the @Litsy catalogue, so tagging another favourite EEW.

Angieville This book is just incredibly sweet. 7y
Chachic I remember hunting down a copy of this because @Angieville rec'd it. I found it sweet but definitely would have enjoyed it more as a teen. 7y
meandmybooks @Angieville is such a bookpusher 😉 I'm impressed you got hold of a copy @Chachic, I'd have thought it was long OOP but I'm glad copies are still out there in the wild! 7y
Angieville I regret nothing! 7y
Chachic It was out of print but I think I found a used copy on Better World Books. 7y

Pickpick

5 out of 5 stars (spoiler alert: I give all 4 books in this series 5 stars as it is one of my all time favorites). The first book in a series about a girl with a politician mother who runs for, and becomes, the president of the USA. Lots of witty, verbose characters w/snappy & sometimes sarcastic dialogue, well researched without feeling like it is being instructive. Expertly updated to current times by the author (I grew up reading 80s editions)

GlitteryOtters (A word of note: I'd highly recommend either the original 80s editions, or these modern updates. Both are good. My only quibble is that I miss the regular Tab references in the original editions. Meg drinking Coke will always seem really odd to me. #biblioweekend 8y

MrBook Also, the cover is a nice spin on the famous painting. 8y
GlitteryOtters @MrBook this edition of the entire series has covers with spins on famous paintings. I totally love that! 💕 8y
flyfarther79 I'm going to look for this one! 8y
flyfarther79 I always have mixed feelings when they modernize books! 8y
GlitteryOtters @flyfarther79 the author did it herself, and she did a really good job. She actually spent a lot of time conversing with several of us hardcore fans online about which things to modernize, which to leave, how to incorporate modern technology as seamlessly as possible and gave a lot of good, logical reasoning as to why she chose some changes, but not others, etc. It was really interesting & it turned out much better than I expected. 8y
GlitteryOtters @flyfarther79 that said, I still read both versions, because after nearly 2 decades of reading the original version of this book it seems weird to not have some of the time centric or more regional references I really enjoyed. 8y
tpixie Very interesting!!! 7y
tpixie The story concept and the story behind the updates!! Thx. 7y

Moving on to the next book in my #biblioweekend. I re-read the President's Daughter series often (at least once every 18 months or so), but it is always mandatory reading in the lead up to a new presidential election, so I'm starting my 2016 election cycle re-read now. These are some of my favorite YA books & Ellen is my all time favorite author, so I'm excited to be getting back to them again. Oh, & here's today's #somethingforsept: read & eat 😋

GlitteryOtters Food on the plate is a mini bread bear & a piece of cinnamon peach vegan coffee cake because, apparently, biblioweekend means read all the books AND eat all the carbs! 😋😋 8y
Eyelit Cinnamon peach coffee cake sounds amazing! Your own recipe or from a cookbook (if the latter, which?) 8y
tpixie Yes cinnamon peach coffee cake!!! 7y
