A Prairie Girl's Faith
A Prairie Girl's Faith: The Spiritual Legacy of Laura Ingalls Wilder | Stephen W. Hines
4 posts | 4 read | 1 to read
The beloved author of the Little House books was not only one of America's great pioneer storytellers but a woman of vibrant faith. A Prairie Girl's Faith provides the first extended, in depth discussion of the Christian faith of one of America's most beloved pioneer women--Laura Ingalls Wilder. Although the faith of the Ingalls' family pervades books in the Little House series, the more specific details of Laura's faith have never been fully explored. It took extraordinary pluck for anyone to survive the harshness of frontier life--from the heartbreak of sudden crop losses to murderous storms to unrelenting loneliness. This book reveals how in surviving, the brave Laura drew not just on her character, but found encouragement, strength, and hope in her relationship with God.

Bailedbailed

As much as it pains me I bailed on this book about half way through. I felt like the author never truly made a connection with Laura, her faith and her life. It felt disjointed with sweeping generalization throughout.

In the authors defensive this is not the style of book I would typically read (I usually avoid all religious books!)

However, I was willing to give it a try bc it‘s about Laura Ingalls Wilder. So disappointed I didn‘t like it. :(

I was so excited when this arrived today! The editor reached out to me last year and asked to use one of my blog images in the book😁 I had forgotten completely about it making its arrival even more exciting. Guess this will be my next read...

tpixie What a thrill!! @debthmpsn my brother in law‘s Gma used to run the Museum in Mansfield, MO. After she died, he donated LIW‘s things to the Smithsonian. I was able to hold some her handwritings in in my own hands! 6y
tpixie ( what blog image did they use?) !!! 6y
debthmpsn @tpixie pretty sure I would have cried if they would have let me hold anything hand written by her. Btw, the museum in Mansfield is beautifully done but DeSmet and Plum Creek hold a special place in my ❤️ 6y
