Hi, everyone! I‘m so sick of the algorithm over on Instagram (@tracycatherinereads) so I‘m gonna be reviewing and chatting here almost entirely! What‘s new in this space? Read any fantastic middle grade lately?

Laughterhp I just recently read this and really enjoyed it! 4y
tracycatherinereads @Laughterhp that‘s good to hear! I‘m hoping I can really dig in today at some point 4y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ really loved it! I‘m NERVOUS for Drums of Autumn - I hear it is quite different.

JulieAnn It‘s still good! The whole series is amazing. 6y
WhatThePuck Drums of Autumn was definitely my least favorite. I gave Voyager 5 stars and Drums 3. I still plan to read The Fiery Cross though. I feel this is just par for the course with any series this long. Some you love more than others. 6y
tracycatherinereads @JulieAnn that‘s good to hear!!! @WhatThePuck Yes! I loved Voyager! What did you give Dragonfly in Amber for a star rating? 6y
WhatThePuck I gave Outlander and Dragonfly in Amber 4 stars, but feel 4.5 is probably more accurate. Lol. 6y
tracycatherinereads @WhatThePuck hahaha sometimes star ratings are so difficult that way. 6y

So I just buzzed all my hair off (yay! Feels wonderful!) and I‘m wondering if any of you have read a novel where the protagonist is described as having really short hair. Any ideas?

RaimeyGallant Looks great! How about Rose McGowan's memoir? It's on my list. Also, did any of the protags have short short hair in Girl, Interrupted? 6y
RaimeyGallant There's an important female character in the last book I wrote who has a shaved head, but I haven't published it yet. :) 6y
tracycatherinereads @RaimeyGallant thanks! Yeah, I‘ve read a few anthologies that feature essays/short memoir about shaved heads. Trying to find some fiction though. Let me know when your book is published!! 6y

I‘ve had a really hard time concentrating since Uncle Jerry‘s sudden death. I‘m giving myself permission today to read slowly. I‘m more of what I call a production reader - that is, super-fast-binge-reader. Today, I‘ll be a process reader and go with the flow as best I can.

Okay don‘t judge me. I found this on audio through my library and I‘ve been listening to it since last night while I finish knitting a pair of socks. I don‘t know what it is about it, but I am really enjoying it. Am I lame? Yeah. That‘s okay. It‘s been a long day, and sadly another death in the family has occurred. My heart hurts so very much.

Checked this out digitally from my library tonight. YA contemporary is so not my thing, but sometimes I need something fluffy and easy. This is both of those things.

Melissa_J I enjoy a lot of YA fantasy, but most contemporary YA drives me nuts (mainly because it‘s been a long since since I was a young adult and I don‘t relate much anymore). Will be curious for your thoughts on this. 7y
tracycatherinereads @Melissa_J I binge read it in three hours last night. YA Contemporary can infuriate me SO much. I‘m 27, but still feel like a grandma when reading them. This was sweet (like, icky sticky sweet and cotton candy). It was a perfect distraction, though. There‘s a fun little element in it too - our protagonist is a “Starfield” nerd. (Think Star Trek). At times cringey, but in a super adorable way. Some clever plays on the traditional Cinderella story. 7y
LShelby I actually tend to prefer contemporary YA romances to the adult ones, especially the funny ones. I might give this one a try. If there‘s too much sugar, I can always bail, right? 7y
tracycatherinereads @LShelby if you like YA contemporary romance, you‘ll love this. Enjoy! 7y

I know I‘ve been quiet the past week. I had a family member tragically and suddenly die, and I‘m absolutely devastated. 💔 I started the City of Brass but haven‘t read any of it any all week because I just can‘t focus. Picked this up at the library after therapy but haven‘t really read much of it... my heart hurts so much, my friends.

A few of the books on my TBR currently. Pretty random selection, I know. Wanna know what‘s weird? I have NEVER pegged myself as a “fantasy person” but I‘m learning that I actually really enjoy historical fantasies. Do you have a fav historical fantasy? Gimme your recs! #tbr #littens

ElenaBaer It technically not historical fantasy, more like time travel, but Michael Crichton's "Timeline" was really good. And I just bought the Maisie Dobbs too! (edited) 7y

So I need to say something a little dif than usual: I want to talk about reading and #selfcare 💜 You do not ever have to push through a book if it is emotionally too much for you. I make no secret of my PTSD, and this particular narrative hit way too close to home for me. I put it down and tried reading it again today. I struggled through 1/2 of it. But I‘m done. And that‘s okay. #mentalhealth

Reecaspieces Yes it is. It is about enjoyment. And if reading this is not enjoyable to you...move on..YOU GOT THIS 7y
Melissa_J So true! 7y
JacqMac Litsy actually helped me be comfortable with not finishing a book that I‘m not enjoying. It‘s ok to let it go. Reading should be fulfilling. 7y
TrishB I bailed, too close for me also. Totally agree. 7y

Okay - I wasn‘t expecting a YA fantasy to have such lyrical writing, but this definitely has that quality. I enjoyed the characters and detailed world. At times I thought the narrative got a bit repetitive, like I had read the same line a few times in dif spots from dif characters. The ending left me kinda confused though. Recommend overall!

Coco I really enjoyed The Penny by Joyce Meyer! Also Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd if you haven‘t read it! Love Walked In by Maria de los Santiago was a recent read of mine that was a little slow at times, but overall a charming book (tho it lacks the historical fiction aspect) 7y

This wasn‘t the best, and I went in knowing that. I didn‘t really like Charlie that much, but Eve‘s story intrigued me. I loved the secondary characters, especially sweet Lili and Finn (though he was a bit too stereotypical Scot for me at times). It‘s worth reading if you like dual perspective and wartime novels.

Okay, so the second half of the book is a lot better than the first half. I almost gave it a so-so, but the second half gave it the boost it needed. I didn‘t like the main character, Maddie, during the first half. As her story progressed though, I found her more relatable. The secondary characters are charming. If you like stories set in Scotland, you‘d likely enjoy this.
