Seeing the need to restore trees in her home, she takes it upon herself to right a wrong, to restore a barren land. She, then shares her vision with other ladies. Their mission produced positive results!
Her message is powerful for all readers. Even when life does not go as planned, persevere and know that the desired results will happen. Stand up for what is right even if it means that you stand by yourself.

This is a picture book biography of Wangari Maathai, a Kenyan woman who earned a PhD, began the reforestation of her country, won a Nobel Peace Prize, and served in Kenya‘s parliament. A good intro to biography for young children, Winters has a series of picture book bios of important women from around the world. I only wish the illustrations were page-size, rather than set in a much smaller frame. #childrensbooks #picturebooks #biography

A true example of how just one person can make a difference!

How wonderful is it we can read something and then use the power of Google to find out more?! After reading this picture book last night we wondered what Wangari looked like and the kids raced for my phone. 😄

IamIamIam I recently watched a blurb about her on FB. What an amazing woman!!!! 7y
