Blackberry Ink | Eve Merriam
post image

Some books from my childhood got mold on them from a leak in the closet so I threw the affected books away. But I loved them so much, I decided I would replace my favorites.

So I got myself BlackBerry Ink, a collection of poetry for children. This edition is an ex library book. I think my original was from the Weekly Reader subscription. But how cute is this one under the dust jacket!

I still have a couple of the poems memorized.

This. Book. We finally have Kyoshi‘s story! She is as much of a badass as I had hoped! The moral ambiguity in the story makes you think too. Insanely good, highly recommend if you love Avatar👍🏻 👍🏻

This MF-animal fantasy book follows a young child and the animals they meet on their adventure in the search for their own “tribe“. This book teaches collective nouns and could be used for GR with emergent readers. Readers can use the illustrations of animals to decode words. https://images.macmillan.com/folio-assets/teachers-guides/9781596436077TG.pdf provides pre-reading activities and comprehension questions to go along with the story.

deiacovab I would use ESOL strategy 6 to monitor student comprehension while reading and ask some of the questions from the resource. UDL 3.2 Highlight patterns, critical features, big ideas, and relationships can be used with the repetition in the book of describing groups of animals. #ucflae3414sp20 2d

So I'm only about halfway through, and it's only February but I'm pretty sure this will be one of the best books I read this year. It really feels like it should be required reading. So I already bought The Door also by Szabo in anticipation of wanting to read more by her.

Definitely a book series that I will be reading to both our little guy and baby girl when they are a bit older. Little guy is 3 years old right now and these are still a bit to old for him but hopefully in a year or two these will be books we can pull out for bedtime reading.

1. English well, French with enthusiasm, German with great difficulty, and Italian just for cussing. 2. Wild Things. 3. One, beige. Hummus on crackers with pepitas. 4. Can‘t get used to using them, so none. @howjessreads @4thhouseontheleft #friyayinto
