A Southern, Gothic retelling of Bluebeard.
I was not familiar with the original story, but this retelling stood on its own.
I loved the slow, dreamy setting, but some of the plot points didn‘t sit well with me.
(As a survivor of emotional/psychological abuse, the actions of Monsieur de Cressac were hard to read at times, but I‘m glad the author portrayed him as abusive, instead of romantic.)

A delightful retelling of the Bluebeard fairy tale in 1850's Mississippi. Full of gorgeous details and visuals, a wonderful read. Definitely going to check out the two other books in this series.

This was a random grab at the library; a retelling of "Bluebeard" set in the heart of Mississippi, this looks like it should be a total winner. ? #strandsofbronzeandgold #janenickerson

I love retellings, and this one was an unexpected and enjoyable take on the Bluebeard fairy tale. It takes place in Mississippi before the civil war on a wealthy plantation, which made a perfect backdrop for a southern Gothic tale. Sorta reminded me of Jane Eyre, but lustier and violent.
