AfterShock Comics continues to push boundaries by presenting it's very first anthology collection featuring a slew of today's top writers and artists. Presented in the European Album format (same as the recent Animosity: the Rise hardcover for LCSD), this handsome hardcover features the creative talents of Neil Gaiman, Michael Zulli, Charles Vess, Michael Gaydos, Andy Clarke, Andrew Robinson, Mike Carey, Jim Starlin, Phil Hester, Paul Jenkins, Dalibor Talajic, Bill Willingham, Travis Moore, Brian Azzarello, Francesco Francavilla, Cullen Bunn, Marc Guggenheim, Marguerite Bennett, Frank Tieri, Brian Stelfreeze, Szymon Kudranski and more! Cover art by John Cassaday! From the multiple Eisner and Harvey Award nominated editor of the classic Negative Burn anthology series.

Mehso-so

28/150 I think they should have named this Shlock instead of Shock. Despite having writing talent like Neil Gaiman, Bill Willingham, Jim Starlin and Brian Azzarello, these stories were, for the most part, totally forgettable. It's a real shame because there is some gorgeous artwork by Charles Vess, Dave Dorman, Travis Moore, and Michael Zulli. Look at the pretty pictures because you won't remember the stories 10 minutes after reading them. 3 ⭐⭐⭐

Didn‘t enjoy this graphic novel anthology. The stories didn‘t grab me, but I will say the art was entertaining. Made for a fun way to check out multiple artists‘ illustrative creativity in one volume.

Been on an ebook roll today 💪🏽 knocked out a bunch of library reads hanging out on Libby/overdrive, got through a couple arcs on iBooks, finished a few comics expiring soon on hoopla, and now I'm hitting up some arcs on digital editions. Boom pow 💥

Related, anyone have thoughts on Libby vs overdrive?? I don't really get the point of having two apps that do the same thing, but Libby is definitely more user-friendly.

ReadingSusan I think Overdrive will eventually go away? I still haven‘t tried Libby but I need to. 6y
melbeautyandbooks I have not found a way on Libby to make a wish list like I have on overdrive. Anybody know how? 6y
TurtleLibrarian I think for those who haven't used either Libby is a softer landing, but those who have been using overdrive it has important extra stuff. 'Course that's just what I've seen @ work, I use my eInk nook and ARE. :) 6y

Pamwurtzler @melbeautyandbooks I think I have read that you can use the tags feature in Libby. Maybe that does the same thing. Otherwise the only difference I notice between them is that there are fewer steps on Libby to accomplish the same thing you‘d do in Overdrive. 6y
melbeautyandbooks @Pamwurtzler Thanks! I will look into the tags more. I didn‘t really pay attention to them. 6y
queerbookreader @melbeautyandbooks I use the stack of books emoji tag to mark all the books I want to check out but can't yet because I've hit my limit 🙈 6y
melbeautyandbooks @queerbookreader That‘s a great idea. Thank you! Those silly limits. I use two libraries on overdrive/Libby. One of them has a 10 book limit. The other one has a 3 book limit. Of course the books I want are usually only available at the 3 limit library. First world bookish problems. 6y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Libby is SO much easier than Overdrive, but Im still using Overdrive primarily because I like it for audiobooks on my Kindle and I don‘t think I can get the Libby app on there. 🤷‍♀️ 6y

I‘m doing my fucking research this time so I can properly call out Aftershock comics for publishing this listed anthology with only 3 out of 21 stories including female creators. I got to the ToCs in my arc of this book and didn‘t go any further and I‘m honestly so disgusted @ literally every publisher that still treats comics like a white boys club. Fuck off. I‘ll be back with official stats.

EDIT: 37 total creators. 3 of them are women. K.

Louise Ah, but tell us how you really feel! 😂😂😂 6y
