Some Do Not...
Some Do Not... | Ford Madox Ford, Max Saunders
1 post | 3 read | 2 to read
Christopher Tietjens, a brilliant, unconventional mathematician, is married to the dazzling yet unfaithful Sylvia when, during a turbulent weekend, he meets a young Suffragette by the name of Valentine Wannop. Christopher and Valentine are on the verge of becoming lovers until he must return to his World War I regiment. Ultimately, Christopher, shell-shocked and suffering from amnesia, is sent back to London. An unforgettable exploration of the tensions of a society confronting catastrophe, sexuality, power, madness, and violence, this narrative examines time and a critical moment in history.

Anyone read this? It‘s only my second Ford Maddox Ford, and I‘m not sure I get it. I‘m neither British nor upper crust enough to understand much of the slang, and whole pages are full of it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Lcsmcat @Trashcanman Here‘s a sample “I know you‘re both more nuts on me than I deserve. And I said I‘d sit and listen to all the pi-jaw you wanted to give me if I sat till dawn.” 3y
Kimberlone I‘ve read Parade‘s End and quite like it, maybe I was biased imagining Benedict Cumberbatch as the main character 3y
Trashcanman @Lcsmcat You're exaggerating at all, that is bad, truly. 3y
rabbitprincess @Kimberlone Ha, Benedict was the reason I read Parade‘s End 😁 3y
