Zen of Seeing: Seeing/Drawing as Meditation
Zen of Seeing: Seeing/Drawing as Meditation | Frederick Franck
3 posts | 1 read | 1 reading | 4 to read
Seeing/Drawing is spiritual discipline, a "Zen method" admirably suited to the active temperament, and a way of contemplation by which all things are made new, by which the world is freshly experienced at each moment. A renown Dutch artist offers his concept of seeing and drawing as a discipline by which the world may be rediscovered, a way of experiencing Zen. Drawn and handwritten by Frederick Franck

I'm back from my weekend of mindful drawing. It was challenging but fun: really rewarding!
I'd never been intimidated by a pinecone before! This page wasn't the best drawing I did, but it's my favourite (as it's a significant milestone in dealing with my "stuff").
The workshop was based on the tagged book but these two mindfulness books by Anna Black, the tutor, are also in the Litsy database.

Pickpick

Franck comes across as rather pleased with himself at times, and claims to find only "pretentious impersonal signallings" in the attitudes of pretty women: when he can see beauty in a dead rabbit, what is that but a failure to see beyond his own prejudices to the actual person before him?

At his best he shows that, through the habit of drawing as process rather than product, attention becomes a form of devotion, which is another word for love.

I'm going on a mindful drawing weekend next month so I reserved this book from the library. Looks like it's had quite the eventful life. (Seriously, who treats books like this?!)

Laura317 Wow! That book has had some serious abuse. It sounds good, though. 6y

Cupofjo I had a book look like that, after my dog ‘read‘ it! Lol ... but I wouldn‘t have returned it to anyone looking like that! (And have had to replace a few library books because my dog apparently loves to eat.. I mean ‘read‘ books! 😂😳 (edited) 6y
Lesliereads This one should have had that super-laminate that library books sometimes have! 6y
Kaye I‘m surprised they kept it rather than sell it in a booksale. 6y
