Writing a portrait of an entire country, spanning three decades is a big job. But in my view, now that Dos Passos has mentioned the small, Minnesotan, liberal arts college I attended, he has succeeded in being all-encompassing! 🎓 😁

Well, I finished it, and the book is now four days overdue! The Big Money is explicitly about just that, essentially the forces of capitalism on shaping America. The Big Problem? After devoting over 1200 pages of my reading attention to this trilogy, I think it could‘ve had greater scope. There are no immigrant or African American stories, which to a 21st century reader looks like a huge oversight. Dos Passos‘ reach may have exceeded his grasp.
This copy of the USA trilogy is due back to the library on Monday & I have no renewals left. Was going to finish reading 3rd book this weekend but then my brother fell & broke his face & got a serious concussion so I‘ve been dealing with that instead. I‘ve already done my due diligence to #modernlibrarytop100 project by reading the 1st book. Noticing more flaws as I continue. A mere 120 pgs from the end of a 1240 pg marathon! What should I do?!
#tbrbingo update: I‘m already behind from reading two books not on this bingo card! 😥 and have two more not on the card coming up! Argh!
(Blue is books I read this month, grey is books I read last month.)
I usually watch tv on Friday nights, BUT:
1) it was a super loud day at work and I want QUIET
2) I really want to read something new and I need to finish at least two of these before I‘ll let myself start another book, so let‘s do this.
This is really feeling like a marathon now. I started the first book of the trilogy on December 31 and I don‘t think I‘ll finish the third book before early March. Looking forward to reading something new.. #modernlibrarytop100
Review for the trilogy, since the 1,001 List counts it as one:
This is a sweeping slice-of-life epic and the main character, even though you aren‘t fully aware of it, is America as a whole. It‘s hopeful, hopeless, funny, infuriating, sad...honestly, it‘s one of the most true-to-life books I‘ve read. The good guy/gal doesn‘t always get the American Dream. (I had to use google b/c my copies aren‘t a matching set! 😭)

I‘m going to play catch-up for the #150PnPCoverParty 😊
💰💰💰Money! I haven‘t started this one yet (still on book 2, 1919) but if the USA isn‘t about money/capitalism, I don‘t know who is! 😂😂
Side Note: There‘s a freaking sticker in the middle of my book cover!! 🤬🤬🤬
