I enjoyed this impressionistic, partially fictitious, family memoir. Alan Lightman's charismatic grandfather MA founded a chain of movie theaters throughout the South and left an overpowering legacy behind. The author returns to Memphis, his hometown, for a funeral and stays on to explore his family history. This book is a thoughtful depiction of how your understanding of your parents and their place in the world can change as you age.
