Immortality | Milan Kundera
10 posts | 23 read | 13 to read
Milan Kundera's sixth novel springs from a casual gesture of a woman to her swimming instructor, a gesture that cre-ates a character in the mind of a writer named Kundera. Like Flaubert's Emma or Tolstoy's Anna, Kundera's Agnes becomes an object of fascination, of indefinable longing. From that character springs a novel, a gesture of the imagination that both embodies and articulates Milan Kundera's supreme mastery of the novel and its purpose: to explore thoroughly the great themes of existence."

An interesting concept in which Kundera inserts himself, and his writing process, into the novel. I'm usually on board for experimental form, but this one left me a bit cold. It felt more like a writing exercise than a novel to me.

A philosophical journey, Kundera is one of the most compelling and intriguing authors I‘ve read.

A nice change from my usual reads. But I did find myself skipping over a lot of parts I wasn't as interested in.

Dripping with wisdom and insights. Not Kundera's most famous work but I enjoyed it even more than the brilliant Unbearable Lightness of Being. So many gems in here that you simply have to read it more than once

This was me three years ago after buying this book in a quirky Seattle bookstore. I never ended up finishing it back then, but happy to take another shot at it now! #I #LitsyAtoZ
