Sisters of Heart and Snow | Margaret Dilloway

Pickpick

Rachel and Drew are dealing with the care of their aging mom who has Alzheimers and often doesn't recognize them. On one of Rachel's visits, her mom tells her about a book she wants her to find. The sisters find the book hidden in their mom's sewing room, a book about a woman named Tomoe Gozen who was a samurai warrior in Japan in the 1100s. They wonder what it has to do with their mom, and why she wanted to make sure they had it.

The fourth in the Marlow Murder Club series, and the best of the series so far, IMO. A classic locked-room mystery where everyone has a motive, means and evidence against them.
I‘ve already placed my order for book 5, out on 15/01/2026.

Beautyland: A Novel | Marie-Helene Bertino

Adina is very relatable to me. I was committed to learning about her life, her likes, her dislikes, and her struggles in society. I remember as a child thinking I talked in a different language than anyone else, which is why everyone thought I was weird. I didn't know anything about the Spectrum. When Adina was hurting, I felt it deep in my gut. At one point, I realized I was clenching because I knew how her honesty would be misconstrued.

Butterfinger Beautyland reminded me very much of this one, which I read with @megnews 1d

Eve, Roark and the crew just don‘t disappoint. Another highly enjoyable read in this series.

I struggle with this series, and yet the cupcakes keep me coming back. This is book 7–some this far have been good, others not so much. This one I really did not like.

This one focuses more on the personal lives of Mel and Angie rather than the mystery. A woman who looks like Angie is killed at a zombie walk. It‘s pretty obvious Angie was the target (it‘s related to an ongoing situation from the prior 2 books…I‘m going to be as spoiler free ⬇️⬇️

Librarybelle ⬆️⬆️⬆️ as possible) and yet both Angie and Mel basically deny this. They are independent women (and Mel at one point refers to herself as a liberated woman) who do not need help or protection. Except… they do. I‘m an independent woman, and I certainly know if someone in the mafia was clearly out to get me I would listen to law enforcement and my family and stay safe. I‘m not sure if their obtuseness and blatant disregard for loved ones‘ concerns.. 2d
Librarybelle …is supposed to be a highlighted strength for independent women, as portrayed in this book, or if it‘s a caution that independent women can be obstinate. It left me feeling very disgruntled and yelling at my phone as Susan Boyce reads the story on audio. Yes, it‘s a cozy mystery, so amateur sleuths are known to do silly and dangerous things. But, this just crosses the line. There are other things too that drove me nuts with Mel and Angie. ⬇️⬇️⬇️ (edited) 2d
Librarybelle ⬆️⬆️⬆️ It‘s fine to be frustrated that people are hovering, but it‘s also not cool to drag people into danger. Sigh…I have the rest of the series on audio, so I will continue to listen (I do like the cupcake talk), but this one was just too much. Disclaimer: My threshold for people‘s poor behavior is pretty low right now given the world‘s issues, so this may play a part in my feelings for this. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2d

Just Haven't Met You Yet | Sophie Cousens
post image
Pickpick

Laura is a lifestyle reporter who focuses her work on love stories and how people met. She travels to the island of Jersey to visit all of the locations featured in her parents' love story. However, shortly after arriving she realizes she got the wrong suitcase at the airport... but hopes it might lead her to her soulmate, because this suitcase is full of the things she loves, including To Kill a Mockingbird and Phil Collins music. ⬇️

CoffeeNBooks She catches a cab, driven by grumpy Ted, but when she explains to him what happened, he definitely doesn't believe this is going to be an epic meet-cute.

This is the second Sophie Cousens book I read, and I really like her books!
