6 posts | 9 read | 1 to read
The unforgettable team of Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, Jim Lee, John Romita Jr. and Andy Kubert combine forces to set the stage for the epic event Dark Nights: Metal with Dark Days: The Road to Metal, complete with a embossed metallic cover! For years, Batman has been tracking a mystery. He's quietly been pulling a thread, conducting research in secret laboratories across the globe and stowing evidence deep in the Batcave, hidden even from his closest allies. Now, in an epic story spanning generations, the heroes and villains of the DC Universe, including Green Lantern, The Joker, Wonder Woman and more, are about to find out what he's discovered--and it could threaten the very existence of the Multiverse! This edition collects Dark Days: The Forge #1 and Dark Days: The Casting #1, as well as classic DC stories that built the foundations of Metal, including Final Crisis #6-7, The Return of Bruce Wayne #1, Batman #38-39, Nightwing #17 and more!

So the Dark Days collection foreshadows DC‘s big Metal event from a few years ago which I‘m excited to get to soon.

Unfortunately it is essentially just 2 important issues (The Casting and The Forge) and then 6 issues plucked randomly from the DC timeline that include tiny hints about Metal.

I thought the Metal event meant like 🤘, but apparently it is a reference to Hawkman‘s Nth metal & magic green metal in the Joker‘s spine. Comics, folks.

Pickpick

The first two issues of this collection are great. They left me eager for DC's big Metal event, even though I wasn't wild about the part I've already read. (That'd be the collection about the evil Batmen.)

The rest of the volume is made up of issues pulled from other events. Each lays some groundwork for Metal, but they don't always work great on their own. I felt like I'd bought a grab bag from my LCS. #caseyplusbooks

TobeyTheScavengerMonk Collections like this get on my nerves a little. I need narrative cohesion in a trade. 5y
