Great biography of photographer Edward S. Curtis, who's life's passion was to capture images of Native Americans before their cultures disappeared. Took me a while but it was very good.

#booked2019 night oriented title search led me to the tagged biography of Curtis, photographer in early 1900s of what became his obsession, the Native Americans. In addition to photos, he and his team recorded language, songs and motion pictures an amazing accomplishment only to die penniless and unknown which frankly pales in comparison to the mass genocide of the native peoples. The author details the conditions and suppression tribe by tribe.⬇️
To say that Edward Curtis‘ life was epic is an understatement. One man who dedicated his life to uncover and immortalize this country‘s dying Native Americans, while his own life was slowly decaying as well. Powerful, sad, angry, marvelous - the gamut of emotions is felt. Don‘t read it if you don‘t want to feel shame for what happened to an entire race of amazing people, or to be inspired by the power of a single man.
