After a fun-filled weekend of family time/memory making, i ended #readingrest24 by unwinding with this collection of short stories, taking 30 minutes ro read the last story. It opens with the character paraphrasing an Einstein quote.
We shouldn't feel guilty for not always having time to read due to a full life, and taking the occasional break makes reading a richer experience. Thanks to @TheReadingMermaid ! I may do this every year on this wknd!

SleepyDragon The relevant quote: "If world war three is fought with atom bombs, then world war four will be fought with clubs." 6y
SleepyDragon Claiming the character said this reminded me of reading Shakespeare in the original Klingon. Lol 6y
BeansPage I'm so glad you had fun. I did too. I feel like we needed this. 6y

SleepyDragon @TheReadingMermaid I think what I most appreciated was the release from guilt. Since joining Litsy, there is this expectation that I'm supposed to try to read every second possible. So when I don't have time or opt to do something else, I'm apologetic about it, ashamed that I don't have as much time as others. I knew I wasn't going to be able ro read this weekend, but I got to celebrate it instead of feeling bad about it. 6y
SleepyDragon I shouldn't feel bad about choosing family over solitary reading. You know? I like to read, but it isn't my whole life. There's a lot of other stuff to do, and taking a break made reading today so much more enjoyable and special. I really relished the pages I read today in a way that I haven't in a while. 6y
BeansPage That's so amazing sweetheart! I hope you still don't feel pressured into reading when you're here. I'm sure everybody reads at different times but they do other things too. I love that you loved this weekend. I'm actually thinking of making it a yearly thing as well. I feel like during the summer people push themselves a little too hard and we all need a rest. 🤗😘🤗😘🤗 6y
SleepyDragon @TheReadingMermaid It was more internal pressure to keep up and try to read as much as others seem to be. So, you know, a personal hangup. Lol Most weekend readathons just don't work for me, as I am usually much busier on the weekends than during the eeek. 6y

I love coming across passages like this. Every country (including former countries) slips a little propaganda into their fiction. And I do mean *every country.*

I kept trying to read the tagged book the last couple days, but was too distracted by the sudden humid and stormy weather. The power flickered a few times, which made me super nervous. Losing the ac when it's 109 F with passing t-storms would be unbearable with the kids. As it was we lost Dish during tv time and had to dig out an old Little Einstein's dvd. I couldn't even concentrate long enough to read the first short story.

Slajaunie We lost power Friday night. It was out for 6 hours at least. A tree fell on the line. When it got dark we went to bed. My "kid" is 14 though. If you have younger children that would be a nightmare. 6y
SleepyDragon @Slajaunie Where abouts are you? We live in a rural desert area. The highs have been around 110 and the lows in the high 80s. Without power the house gets way too hot to stay. We would have to find someplace else to to. We have a 10 yr old and toddler twins. Glad your power came back. 6y
SleepyDragon We lost power for over a week when the twins were babies. Ever since then, I get panic attacks whenever it might go out again. We didn't lose power this time, so I feel better now. 😊 6y
Slajaunie We live in Thibodaux, Louisiana (southwest). We are having highs in the 90‘s with a heat index of about 102. When it is cloudy it is bearable in the house. If the sun were out there would be no way although after hurricanes you don‘t have a choice. Thank goodness we have not had any! 6y
