I had both the print and audio of this one. I abandoned the audio a few chapters in because it was narrated with an HF naïveté that drives me crazy. I was still meh past the half way point because I thought the plot with the European American girl falling in love with her big brother‘s Japanese American BFF (until Pearl Harbor) was too predictable. The story finally drew me in enough for this to become a very slow pick. ↓

On the one hand, I found the writing cheesy, but on the other hand, there was beautiful research. I purposely choose this book to learn more about how Japanese Americans were treated during WWII and I definitely learned a lot of new facts. I just wish the writing was stronger.

I‘m having a desire for WWII fiction. Good thing I have a ton of it in my kindle app. I planted the rest of our flowers this morning, so I have the whole day left to get lost in this.

Girl elopes with her brother‘s best friend who is of Japanese decent two days before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Divided families and interesting insight on how quickly the nation changed after the bombing. I did enjoy the story. I think it was a bit more heavy then I was expecting. 3⭐️ book 38
