Mehso-so

I had high hopes for this one, but it really didn't measure up for me.

Olivia Denis, a young, widowed woman is determined to prove that her husband was murdered rather than committing suicide. As she must support herself or return to her father's overbearing home, she becomes a society column reporter which aids her in her investigation. As she encounters another side to her husband's life (a big one) and his clandestine work-related affairs, 🔻

Unfortunately, I did not connect with Olivia at all. As the book began with her identifying her husband's body, she failed to show much remorse even though she considered their marriage a happy one. Yes, she did work to prove her was murdered, but I didn't get the sense that there was much personal feeling involved, especially after she met the 🔻

robinb And to be honest, I wasn't very invested in the story itself. It felt too repetitious and heavy-handed in trying to cast as many characters in the role of villain as possible.

It really just didn't work for me. 2.5/5⭐️ Almost a pan.

London-the late 1930‘s,when England was trying to appease Hitler & avoid another war. Intrigue, intelligence, counterintelligence…A new widow whose husband‘s death is ruled a suicide, disputes this& sets out to solve his “murder”,finding herself in a quagmire where nothing is as it seems.Relentlessly pursued, she faces danger at every turn. Her job as a society reporter provides the perfect cover for her when recruited to be British spy.Fast paced.

I wasn't sure what to expect, but this was a good cozy historical mystery! I think I first saw it on Amazon, but no one has posted about it here on Litsy and none of the libraries in my library system owns it, but I was able to get the audiobook on Hoopla.

emtobiasz I‘ve got this saved my hoopla wishlist too— glad to hear it‘s a good one! 6y
