This fairytale was enjoyable to read as it offered lots of life lessons for children to learn. As a teacher, I can use this story in my future classroom to emphasize literacy skills. One activity I can do is to have students make predictions on what they think Jack will find at the top of the beanstalk.

Jack and the Beanstalk by Steven Kellogg is a traditional fairytale book about a young boy, Jack, who is offered magic beans in exchange for a cow. The tale follows Jack's adventure in exploring the magic beanstalk. Overall, this story emphasizes the themes of good versus evil and overcoming challenges.

“Fee-fi-fo-fum“

This will be a great story to teach students about right versus wrong, good versus evil, and overcoming challenges. Plus, it is a very entertaining story for children. I think the use of repetition with what the Ogre says each time Jack climbs the beanstalk and into the Ogre's home.

“Jack and the Beanstalk“ is a classic fairy tale that all children will hear many times and will know it by heart. It is a fairy tale because there are aspects of magic with the beans and the golden harp and obstacles and tasks that the character must hurdle over to reach their happily ever after.

“Have you been such a dolt, such an idiot as to give away my Milky-White, the best milker in the parish, for a set of paltry beans?“

I would use “Jack and the Beanstalk“ in my classroom to expose my students to famous, traditional fairy tales. I would also use this book to talk about what is right vs wrong, especially in bad situations. I would also discuss the moral or lesson of the story, which is to do your best to turn every bad situation into good one and to take advantage of opportunities in life. However, I would emphasize the fine line between both.

“Jack and the Beanstalk“ is an example of an English fairy tale, a type of traditional literature. What makes this book a fairy tale is its use of good vs evil characters, a conflict, resolution, magic beans, a “happily ever after“, and a lesson or moral. The moral or lesson of the story is to try and make the best out of every bad situation and taking advantage of all opportunities thrown your way.

“What with showing the golden harp and selling the golden eggs, Jack and his mother became very rich.“

This is a book that includes a fantasy aspect as it talks about the magic beans and the characters that live on top of the beanstalk. This would be a good story to read in elementary school to build a child's schema on their fantasy stories.

This is a wonderful fantasy told to many children. This story shows signs of cumulative story elements. This is due to the fact that the story accumulates upon itself. This is a well-known fantasy that is told in many classrooms and homes.

“Don't be silly,“ the giant's wife said. “You smell the sausages I've cooked for your breakfast! Now sit down and eat.“

Jack and the Beanstalk written by Steven Kellogg and published in 1991 is an example of traditional literature. In this version Steven Kellogg tells the English version of the classic tale. You could tell it wasn't an American version because he said pounds instead of dollars. This story is brought to life through gorgeous illustrations with bold colors and amazing attention to detail that would indulge any reader.

“but the harp called out 'master , master' and the ogre woke up“

I really loved the vivid colors and the use of English phrases in this story.

“The ogre fell down and broke his crown and the beanstalk came tumbling after.'' This quote is interesting since it sounds very similar to humpty dumpty. It combines multiple stories into one, but staying true to Jack and the Beanstalk.

This book would be a good tale of testing you luck. It would show children what could go wrong if you test your luck too much.

Fables
This story was a wonderful retelling of the original story Jack and the beanstalk. It is a folktale since it is a wonder tale that idolizes wealth from the poor. The story ends very abruptly as most folktales do, claiming Jack married a princess and was treated with respect for his bravery. It has beautiful illustrations and was a great read.

“What with showing the golden harp and selling the golden eggs, Jack and his mother became rich, and Jack married a great princess and they all lived happily ever after.” This quote is another example of the traditional literature because they say “happily ever after” and there seems to be no recognition of the wrong doings that took place in the story!

After reading this I can‘t recall if I did read the more modern version as a child! It was wonderful to be able to experience it in a more traditional way today! The images are beautiful and full of detail. You have to stop and look carefully to see everything on the page!

This version of Jack and the Beanstock is an English take on the story. It is more traditional than the ones we had in class as a kid! The language used is much more traditional English than we speak today. They use phrases such as “Have you been such a dolt?” And use pounds instead of dollars for currency! Very interesting to read

I enjoyed the way the oger was illustrated

This was a classic tale that almost everyone has read or heard at sometime in their life. I remember my grandpa telling me this story when I was younger. I also enjoyed the thorough details of this book as far as illustrations.

“And it went on singing till the ogre fell asleep and began to snore like thunder.”

Kellogg‘s illustrations blew me away. They were absolutely breathtaking and as detailed as they possibly could be.

Jack and the Beanstalk by Steven Kellogg published in ?? is a story children would love. It expands the knowledge of many children by touching on animals, plant growth, etc. Plus, i believe children would enjoy the fear factor presented throughout with the ogre.

“We must sell Milky White and with the money start shop or something.”

The dialogue in this retelling is very traditional and contains old English words that you don‘t find anymore in modern day fairy tales.

This is a vividly illustrated retelling of the classic fairy tale. This would be great to have in a classroom because the illustrations are so detailed and make the story really come to life.

“Well, Mother,” he said. “Wasn‘t I right about the beans? They are magical, you see.”

I love the characterization along with the drawings in the book. They reflect each other so well and really add to the emotion of the story.

The illustrations in the story really extend the plot and overall concept. I love the illustrations of the magical beanstalk, especially when his mother sees it and believes in Jack.
