A small group of well-to-do gather to spend a summer at Crome. Each brief chapter could almost be read as its own short story, (one of which seems to have evolved into A Brave New World). I didn‘t find it particularly exciting or eventful but there were humorous moments as Huxley mocks and humiliates his cast of self-centred socialites. 5/10

Rich people probs, amiright? 😂 I‘m going to give this a pick because the fact that these characters are so obnoxious, yet so vulnerable at the same time, shows a talented author capable of drawing complex characters. There are moments of brilliance and moments where I was contemplating a DNF, something I never do. This won‘t be among my favorites, but I always enjoy someone taking a shot at overbearing, repressed societies. 217/1,001 #1001Books

I feel like Huxley wrote this as one big inside joke for like four friends. “Tut, tut, Huxley, old chap, this is really quite clever!” 100 years later, I‘m DNFing at p112. (Side note: There is a character named Mr Barbecue-Smith, and that DID crack me up.)

Someone who checked out this book from our library before me felt the need to add in the author‘s middle name. 😂

Sorry it's a little dim. I really felt a little disturbed when I read this page to think about all the cultures and practices and just simple joys that people used to have that are lost to more rigid, oppressive, social expectations. How people are so often shamed out of the things that make humans free. I haven't devoured a book like this in years, but Crome yellow is just so artistic and thoughtful and deep. If

I bought this even though it is highly possible I already have it on my kindle. I guess this means I should read it soon.

The best part of this book is when Mr Scogan describes his vision of the future—it‘s like an outline for Brave New World, which came out 12 years later. The other 150 pages feature wealthy people hanging out at an English country house post-WW1. They lecture, they wish they weren‘t single, nothing much happens. There is definitely humor, but I can‘t relate. #1001books

This was very disappointing, I'm not sure what I expected, but it certainly didn't deliver. The most interesting part for me was the short chapter on Sir Hercules.

A little mini book haul, for the princely sum of €16.98 for the lot. The top book cut off is another John Connolly book- Burning Soul
