Ethan Frome & Summer
Ethan Frome & Summer | Edith Wharton
5 posts | 6 read | 2 to read
This edition presents Wharton's two most controversial stories, which she considered inseperable, in one volume for the first time. Set in frigid New England, both deal with sexual awakening and appetite and their devastating consequences. This text includes newly commissioned notes. From the Trade Paperback edition.

It was just okay. The tension between Ethan and Maddie kept the pages turning. Not bad for a short read, though.

"I had the story, bit by bit, from various people, and, as generally happens, in such cases, each time it was a different story."

My first Edith Wharton! I read this alongside an audiobook, which was very helpful in getting me familiar with Wharton's beautiful writing. Overall, this super sad book wasn't my cup of tea, but was very engaged with the second half of the story. I do want to read more of her works. 3.5 out of 5.

Pickpick

I'm not huge on classics, but this short work has a delicious ending.

alisonrose I‘ve tried blogging a few times and it‘s never quite stuck 😜 6y
CouronneDhiver I‘m a very honest type and, so, I‘ve been hesitant to try it because I might end up very vulnerable. Not all my thoughts belong online. Lol 6y
MaGoose @CouronneDhiver I've had a blog since 2013. I didn't blog very much until the past few months. I started reading and reviewing mystery books, usually pre-publication or very recently published. 6y

margreads I blogged for many many years but these days it feels very challenging to write about books. Much easier to blog about cake!! 6y
MaGoose @margreads 😀 I haven't baked a cake in a while. Maybe I'll do that again soon when the weather gets cooler. Do you blog about cake? What's your blog's URL? I'd like to read it. 6y
