Reminded me of "old school" King stories that I read in the 80's. The story is suspenseful and rather rapidly paced for such a long novel. The only downside is that the ending felt a bit too rushed with an epilogue that I didn't care for. 4 out of 5 stars.

Just realized I've never read Karens since it had its physical copy release. Free time on my hands so I know what I'm about to do!

Rather solid commentary. I usually find Friedman intriguing.

Perfect and chilling read. Thomas is a master of pacing and deftly weaving a dread that gets under the skin. 5 stars.

One of the most exciting elements of being an author is the receiving of pictures of my books in different places. Check it out on Amazon and send me your own photos.

Normally this is not my genre, but I remembered my mother raving about it as a child and watching the BBC version. Wonderfully written with an engaging plot. Surprised not to see more fans!

rubyslippersreads One of my favorites! 5y
Palimpsest I love this book. 5y
Gezemice I am a fan and this is not my normal genre, either. 5y
inthegreensandblues I read this for the first time a couple of months ago in preparation for a trip to Cornwall. I loved the uneasiness throughout, and the ending! 5y

One of the best general pop sci texts I've read. Bryson is always a good choice.

Love it when readers send me pictures and anecdotes from my works. If you're looking for satire, they're on Amazon.
When the mayor drives a twenty foot wheelchair and wears an Elvis wig, it's clear it can only be in Hell. Chunky coffee, suicidal puppets that run a kids show and a song that never ends are just bonuses.

West of Eden | Harry Harrison
Pickpick

Although an older title, this is still a work I vividly remember and doesn't feel dated. One of my favorites.

TK421 I haven't read any Harry Harrison in years. I remember liking this book, and the next one. I also read his Stainless Steel Rat series. Those were pretty fun. 5y

Tommyknockers | Stephen King

One of the best King books out there. As with most of his books, it has a weird vibe. Rather reminiscent of his later Needful Things.

Wasn't sure how I'd feel about my first foray into Neil Gaiman. Fantastic story. Excellent mythology. Glad I took the jump.

KathyWheeler I‘m so glad you liked it! American Gods is not his easiest read, but I loved it. 5y
Scochrane26 I love American Gods! I read Ocean at the end of the Lane for my 1st Gaiman. 5y

Loved this book! Atmospheric, meaningful, with memorable characters yet retaining a lightness and wit that would have been lost with a less deft author.

The first in Cahill's brilliant series is also my favorite. Not too dense but with enough information to rightfully argue that Irish monks saved much of our ancient writings by copying them in monasteries. Quite enjoyable.

One of the best and most complex sci-fi novels ever written. Simmons, with a horror background, creates an antagonist in The Shrike, that is like no other. Highly recommend.

Book 2 releases tomorrow and I'm more nervous about this than the first one. Perhaps it's because of expectations that wasn't there before...or I'm just a weirdo.

Marilyncjackson It is going to be awesome. I have nothing to base this on but I have a whole lot of blind faith. 👍😎 5y
JCPaulk Thank you! @Marilyncjackson I think it's the expectations because the first one, "Evangelicals" met with a much higher and positive response than I expected. Book 3 is Politicians in Hell 5y
Marilyncjackson @JCPaulk I love the titles! I hope they are a good indication of what is inside. I have not read the first one yet but I put it on my TBR 5y
JCPaulk @Marilyncjackson I think they are! I struggled with trying to be more clever, but as a series, its working out. I'm honored you added me to your list! 5y

While not as good as his previous John Adam's, McCullough shows a mastery of the revolutionary period. His ability to keep many points simultaneously in the forefront is impressive.

BookNAround My husband was reading this on a plane coming home from London. His British seatmate leaned over and asked what he was reading. When hubby told him the title, his comment was, “Not a good year for us.” Hubby responded with “Pretty good year for us, though.” LOL! 5y

The Discoverers | Daniel J. Boorstin

Concise and well researched. Boorstin's work may come across as dense to some but he's rarely dull. Would have liked more focus on non-western civilizations but that is to be expected given his specialty field.
