In 2008, I met Zadie Smith at an event at Symphony Space for the release of this collection she edited and wrote a piece for. I told her I wanted to write, that I felt compelled to write after surviving two near-death experiences within the past year.

She was so kind, and delightfully signed the cover page of her story in The Book of Other People: "To Kate, Good luck with your work--no more near deaths though!"

Interesting collection of character studies by various authors. Some better than others. I liked a majority of them and have two or three new authors to look up. Sixth for #bookisholympics
