Pawn in Frankincense
Pawn in Frankincense: Fourth in the Legendary Lymond Chronicles | Dorothy Dunnett
For the first time Dunnett's Lymond Chronicles are available in the United States in quality paperback editions. Pawn in Frankincense is the fourth in the legendary Lymond Chronicles. Somewhere within the bejeweled labyrinth of the Ottoman empire, a child is hidden. Now his father, Francis Crawford of Lymond, soldier of fortune and the exiled heir of Scottish nobility, is searching for him while ostensibly engaged on a mission to the Turkish Sultan. At stake is a pawn in a cutthroat game whose gambits include treason, enslavement, and murder. With a Foreword by the author. From the Trade Paperback edition.

Mehso-so

This book was definitely a slog for me 😞 It could have been bad timing on my part when choosing to start it, or the fact that I'm not as familiar with the history of the Ottoman Empire... who knows. I will absolutely finish the series (only 2 more books to go!), but this is my least favourite of the series.

Pickpick

Finally finished Book Four (of Six!) in the Lymond Chronicles. This one was just as suspenseful, nerve-wracking and wonderfully written as the others.

I know. I know. I blab about this series constantly. However, there is no pain quite so exquisite as that which Dorothy Dunnett dishes out. #mademecry #somethingforsept

Today's #augustphotochallenge is hard. There are too many characters I love: Hermione Granger, Lizzie Bennet, Lucy Pevensie, Valancy from The Blue Castle... but then I saw my Lymond Chronicles, and had to pick Philippa Somerville. Any character could easily be eclipsed by Lymond, but Philippa never is. I love her initiative, determination, and loyalty. Plus, there's a dear child who calls her Fippy. Can't not love that. #favefemalecharacter
