Previous to my friend lending me this book, Annie F. Downs was a completely foreign author to me.
A native of Nashville, TN, she now feels like a familiar friend.
Her writing, message, & lessons not only made me feel closer to God in this season, but closer to my big sister who also lives in TN.
This book is a comfort.
It was a quick,easy, narrative driven experience that flew by like a crescendo on a grand piano.
Highly recommend.

I‘m still waiting for God to show up for me. I‘m still wondering if He‘s going to spend my life breaking my heart. I‘m still wrestling with Him because this doesn‘t all feel fair or right, and I‘m ready for it to be fair and right and well. I‘m tired of limping and I‘m fatigued with the idea that this limp is with me forever, and I‘m frustrated that I can‘t see it as a blessing.

How often do we question what God is capable of doing in our lives, in our hearts, in our minds? How often do we second guess instead of trust that He we can do all things because He can do all things, and he lives inside each one of us?

Making this a blurb not really because the words on the page are significant or deep in some way, more because I‘m exploring different ways to manage anxiety and depression, both of which have a tendency to have me making up stories and lies in my head, and this paragraph describes another tactic that could help me attack those thoughts before they become too much.

I‘ll lay me down and bleed a while,
Then I‘ll rise and fight again.

“He will provide for you,” she continued, “and He sees you, and He is better than we realize.”

We can be in the wilderness and be fed. Those two realities are not mutually exclusive. Life can be painful and beautiful at the exact same time.

If I got exactly I wanted tomorrow, how would I want to live today? If I knew the season was going to change tomorrow, how would I want to live the sunset of this season? If the empty spaces were soon to be filled, what did I want my days to look like leading up to it?

When we know a season is changing, we act like it. We seem to be really good about it in our homes and in our closets and on our calendars, knowing a new season is coming.
But why don‘t we do it intentionally with our spiritual lives? When the winds blow and things seem to be shifting, when something new feels like it‘s just around the corner for us spiritually, why don‘t we prepare for it?

Breathe in, sigh out.

It's actually one of the things God is really known for: Finishing. Completing. Not leaving things undone.

I‘m not a crier when books are involved. But this book there were tears involved. I relate so much to Annie. Spoke to many issues I‘ve had over the years.

This is one of the most courageous, vulnerable, powerful books I‘ve read/heard. Annie narrates herself, which is amazing, because not only is she funny as anything but the emotion she conveys as she tells her own story is impossibly moving. If you‘ve ever journeyed through disappointment, unmet dreams or expectations, unanswered prayers, or struggled with pain and doubt over the nature and character of God, you will relate to this book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I absolutely loved this book! It‘s very real and raw. It was encouraging and eye opening and just amazing all around!
