How She Died, How I Lived
How She Died, How I Lived | Mary Crockett

Girl in Pieces meets The Way I Used to Be in this poignant and thought-provoking novel about a girl who must overcome her survivor's guilt after a fellow classmate is brutally murdered. I was one of five. The five girls Kyle texted that day. The girls it could have been. Only Jamie--beautiful, saintly Jamie--was kind enough to respond. And it got her killed. On the eve of Kyle's sentencing a year after Jamie's death, all the other "chosen ones" are coping in various ways. But our tenacious narrator is full of anger, stuck somewhere between the horrifying past and the unknown future as she tries to piece together why she gets to live, while Jamie is dead. Now she finds herself drawn to Charlie, Jamie's boyfriend--knowing all the while that their relationship will always be haunted by what-ifs and why-nots. Is hope possible in the face of such violence? Is forgiveness? How do you go on living when you know it could have been you instead?

I enjoyed this story, but I wish it would‘ve focused more on the trial than just the MC‘s relationship. I think the storyline was great but the relationship aspect overshadowed what Kyle did. Really the only time Jamie is brought up is when the MC is talking about dating Charlie.

You can relate to all the characters feelings and thoughts when it comes to forgiveness.

Just finished reading, and I have to say, it was okay. Started off good, and even though I do like how the author shows us the internal struggles of the characters, the storyline just fell flat. In the end, it‘s an okay book.

It gets going and then stalls a little. Rinse and repeat. Maybe this Zevia will help things along. #youngadult

Doing some #rainydayreading!

Started this eArc yesterday and I'm so sucked in. It's about a teen who was one of 5 girls a local boy texted in the hopes of luring one out to meet him. Our MA almost agreed to meet him, but gets distracted by another text message. The 5th girl, Jamie, ends up going and dying. A year later, our girl is still dealing with survivor's guilt and crushing on Jamie's longtime boyfriend. I am here for this plot.
