This is Weist's follow up to The Boys of '67, the fighting heroes (draftees) of Charlie Company. This volume focuses on the wives. Their ptsd/trauma was largely ignored upon their return; but even more tragic is how many soldiers died 10-15 years later of illnesses caused by exposure to Agent Orange.

This author has written a few books about Charlie Company from the Vietnam War. This is focused more on the wives of the soldiers and what they experienced both during the war and once their husbands returned.

Despite being recent in history, I don‘t know much about Vietnam, and this was an accessible way to read about it. My only complaint is that the focus was so wide (24 wives I think.) #netgalley ⬇️⬇️

Reviewsbylola I believe the author wanted to pay homage to all the wives he interviewed, but the stories ended up feeling a bit redundant. Personally I would have preferred the focus to be on 4-5 wives to really beef up their personal stories. I was shocked to read that these men faced being jeered at and spit upon once they returned home. Almost all of them were drafted and didn‘t choose to go. That was really difficult for me to accept. 6y
