2 posts | 5 read | 1 to read
The comics event of 2016, DC UNIVERSE: REBIRTH heralds a new era in storytelling for DC Comics. Praised by critics and fans alike, DC UNIVERSE: REBIRTH is a must-read comic that sets the stage for the future of the DC Universe. Wally West is trapped out of time and space, lost in the recesses of dimensional bleed due to the Flashpoint caused by his mentor, Barry Allen. Drifting in this nothingness, only Wally—the man once known as Kid Flash and then the Flash—can see the mystery pervading the universe. Who has stolen 10 years? Wally must now return to Earth and the loved ones who have always acted as his lightning rod, but no matter who he contacts, he slips further and further away, closer to nothingness. The fate of the universe depends on Wally West’s REBIRTH… The story that began one of the most critically acclaimed launches of all time is here in DC UNIVERSE: REBIRTH DELUXE EDITION. Written by #1 New York Times best-selling author Geoff Johns (JUSTICE LEAGUE) with art from four of the industry’s greatest talents in Ivan Reis (AQUAMAN), Gary Frank (BATMAN: EARTH ONE), Ethan Van Sciver (GREEN LANTERN: REBIRTH) and Phil Jimenez (INFINITE CRISIS), this new hardcover edition features a story with ramifications that will reverberate through the DC Universe for years to come!

This was a nice surprise, though perhaps I should've expected it given that it's scripted by Geoff Johns. His work always pulls me in but good. Here he and his co-creators have produced a short but engaging explanation of how DC's big Rebirth happened. I have reservations about a few choices, but the story made me want to know more and left me WAY less confused about how DC continuity works. #caseyplusbooks

TobeyTheScavengerMonk Rebirth had a lot of heavy lifting to do as it is kind of a line wide reboot and kind of a walk back of the dramatic New 52 changes, and I think it mostly succeeded. It was a big deal for me to get Wally West back. He was the Flash when I started reading comics and when Barry came back I was always disappointed at how Wally got sidelined. 6y

Better than I expected, considering how many times DC has "rebooted" its universe. I liked a few things from the New 52 line, but I think the Rebirth Universe is better, taking parts of the classic DC storyline and mixing the parts of Flashpoint and New 52 that worked. Gary Frank is an amazing artist. 4 ???? out of 5.
