A Ration Book Christmas
A Ration Book Christmas: A heart-warming Christmas classic for fans of Mary Gibson | Jean Fullerton
5 posts | 5 read
In the darkest days of the Blitz, Christmas is more important than ever. With Christmas approaching, the Brogan family of London's East End are braving the horrors of the Blitz. With the men away fighting for King and Country and the ever-present dangers of the German Luftwaffe's nightly reign of death and destruction, the family must do all they can to keep a stiff upper lip. For Jo, the youngest of the Brogan sisters, the perils of war also offer a new-found freedom. Jo falls in love with Tommy, a man known for his dangerous reputation as much as his charm. But as the falling bombs devastate their neighbourhood and rationing begins to bite, will the Brogans manage to pull together a traditional family Christmas? And will Jo find the love and security she seeks in a time of such grave peril?

Wouldn‘t you think a book titled A Ration Book Christmas” would primarily be, I don‘t know, about Christmas?! The word Christmas is literally not even mentioned until at least 25% in, and this as a distant thing coming up months later, and the only part actually about Christmas was one chapter at the end where they eat dinner together. Good WW2 London Blitz story, bad Christmas story. 🌟🌟🌟 #mistletoemaniacs #wintergames2021

I‘m excited to participate in another readathon! The #anywayyoureadathon sounds perfect. My goal will be to finish the tagged book (I‘m at like 20% and we aren‘t even close to Christmas yet 🤨) as well as at least one of the audiobooks I have lined up for the next few weeks. Let‘s see what happens!

Eggbeater Good luck! Thanks for joining! 2y

This is a lovely, heartwarming and nostalgic story. A vividly told tale, so much so I felt transported back in time. There is a real sense of time and place. The courage and tenacity of people during such a tough and tumultuous era are very well depicted. I was totally immersed in the story and invested in the lives of the families involved. It‘s a little predictable but even so it‘s such an enjoyable, pleasure to read!

A truly lovely read with captivating characters and depictions of London during the Blitz that are so realistic, it's almost like you are experiencing it with the characters.
An absolute treat .... just in time for Christmas 😊
