FROM THE #1 BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF "HOLY ISLAND" AND "SYCAMORE GAP" "The hunter becomes the hunted..." When a man is found dead at the remote church of Heavenfield, DCI Ryan is the only other person for miles around. The police have no weapon, no motive and no other suspects. Already suspended from Northumbria CID, Ryan must fight to clear his name. But soon, more than his career is at stake when prominent members of the mysterious 'Circle' begin to die. Somebody wants Ryan's name to be next on the coroner's list and to survive he must unmask the devil who walks among them - before it is too late. Unfortunately for Ryan, the devil looks just like everybody else... Murder and mystery are peppered with romance and humour in this fast-paced crime whodunnit from LJ Ross, set amidst the spectacular Northumbrian landscape.

This is a review of book 4 in the DCI Ryan Series, but as book not in database need to put it on book 3. I felt Angel was a great read and taken a good series to another level and with events at the end has made me want to move staright onto book 5 which thankfully is already published. In this book Ross took the series in a slightly different direction & I feel this is the right decision, and has eliminated the one thing holding the series back.

Andrew65 I definitely recommend the series and this book. 6y
TrishB Another series I haven‘t read! They are well liked on amazon!! 6y
Andrew65 @TrishB They are set in the North-East Of England where I spent 14 happy years, and regularly return to, so always helps improve a book if you know the settings. In fact taught at one of the school‘s closest to the Angel of the North just after it had been constructed. 6y
TrishB These look right up my street- it‘s a new series for a later date! 6y
Andrew65 @TrishB I‘ve now read four in the last two months and NEED to read 5 very soon. Hope you enjoy them. 👍 6y

Can‘t find book 4 in this series, Angel, in the database so have tagged it under book 3. I am enjoying this series and have now moved onto Angel. I am hoping I will enjoy it as much. If you enjoy English Detective Series the series is worth a look. Rated 4.36 on Goodreads.

EadieB Gotta start this series soon! 6y

Finished book 3 in this series set in the North-East Of England. These are enjoyable reads but most definitely need to be read in order. I enjoy the main character in them, DCI Ryan, and some intriguing plot lines. This one possibly brought to an end the key themes that have been developed in books 1 and 2. Will only be able to confirm these when I read book 4. Will definitely be continuing the series.

ElishaLovesBooks Do you ever watch any BBC detective mysteries? I would love some recommendations! I‘ve seen Scott and Bailey, Grantchester, Midsomer Murders to name a few. . . 7y
Andrew65 @ElishaLovesBooks The Lewis TV series was good but finished now, although some available on YouTube. Shetland TV series is good but ITV. Death in Paradise. Also from many years ago Dalziel and Pascoe. Many of the better recent ones are on ITV in the U.K. 7y

ElishaLovesBooks I love Death in Paradise and I think I‘m a season behind! ITV is ok- I have seen an episode or two of Shetland and liked it. I will look into Dalziel and Pascoe. Thank you!!😊 7y
ElishaLovesBooks The Lewis TV series looks good too! Now I have something to watch with my husband. I really appreciate it! 7y
Andrew65 @ElishaLovesBooks If you enjoy Lewis, which was a spin off of Morse (based on the Colin Dexter books) and aired in the eighties (and introduced me to crime fiction) then you might be interested in Endeavour (ITV again) which tells Morse‘s earlier career. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-1HWnt-k4dk 7y
ElishaLovesBooks I‘ve seen Endeavour on Amazon Prime and wondered about it. I‘ll give it a try too! 7y
