I started my cold Sunday morning by finishing this book while snuggled up with the pets. It didn‘t teach me new ideas, but it gave clear and concrete examples of how to guide students through deeper reading of texts. I appreciated the examples for introducing and extending close reading strategies by examining examples other than standard texts. The endnote emphasizes the importance of this habit of observation and analysis in all aspects of life.

I‘m switching it up for a little while tonight to read some of this book about teaching close reading. It‘s been on my TBR a long time, and I finally got hold of a copy. So far, it‘s not necessarily providing anything new, but it‘s a wonderful refresher and reminder about ways to guide students to encourage deeper, more careful reading in clear and specific ways.
