Sometimes the people we trust are the ones we should fear. We all recognise them. Those who sit just on the fringes of society. Who send prickles up the back of our necks. The charmers. The liars. The manipulators. Those who have the potential to go that one step too far. And then take another step. Jessamine Gooch makes a living from these people. Each week she broadcasts a radio show looking into the past lives of convicted killers; asking if there was more that could have been done to prevent their terrible crimes. Then one day she is approached by a woman desperate to find her missing friend, Cassie, fearing her abusive husband may have taken that final deadly step. But as Jessamine delves into the months prior to Cassie's disappearance she fails to realise there is a dark figure closer to home, one that threatens the safety of her own family . . . Set over a long, dark winter in London and perfect for fans of HE SAID/SHE SAID and Belinda Bauer, THE DANGEROUS KIND is at once a gripping thriller and a stunning portrayal of the monsters that live among us. PRAISE FOR DEBORAH O'CONNOR 'Searingly relevant, at times uncomfortably truthful, a page turner and an empathetic look at fractured modern lives' Gillian McAllister 'Dark, uncompromising but full of heart. It gave me goosebumps and I raced through it in a matter of days. Highly recommended' Holly Seddon 'Great concept, silky prose & originality oozing off every page' Eva Dolan 'Absolutely brilliant . . . a really sophisticated, smart, engaging thriller' Jo Spain 'Dark, disturbing, devilishly plotted. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough' Chris Whitaker 'A terrifyingly plausible novel about predators hiding in plain sight, the banality of evil and the lies we tell to comfort ourselves. Urgent, relevant and completely unputdownable. Definitely one of the thrillers of the year' Martyn Waites

What an absolutely brilliant thriller! A compelling and sometimes harrowing story of the monsters that live among us.
It's heartbreaking to know children actually go through this 💔

This was a really good nystery/ thriller. I love the use of modern day tech like podcasts. The story is told from multiple people which I really like as if adds more depth to the story. It jumps about a bit but I found it easy to follow. I enjoyed the story and the build up was good. I guessed some of the twists but found the ending really good. A great thriller.

I loved the book so much, I don‘t think there are enough words to explain. I finished it in two sittings and then reread it, but this time slowly, enjoying the style and mystery of the book. I was blown away by how brilliantly written this book is.

As the stories progress, they link and all the pieces suddenly come together in such a way that made me gasp…..it feels so real, with the relatively recent revelations (alleged allegations)of child abuse by TV personalities and people in positions of power, heartbreaking too….poor Billy!…

I have read some gripping thrillers this month and this one is no exception. This had a good storyline and kept me entertained. It tackles some difficult topics and it was quite uncomfortable to read in places but it was written well and not overly explicit.
