In the 12 Century, Lisbon was under siege for nearly 4 months. This event brought the city into Portuguese control, taking it from the Moors. It was one of the few Christian victories of the Second Crusade. The history is fascinating ... the book is not for me. But it did make me want to find other books on the subject!

I am quite taken with Saramago's whimsical style (🤗), even if not quite so his total and utter disregard for punctuation (😖).
… and now for something completely different.
Used bookstore haul! As always, I didn't go in seeking these books. I didn't find the one book I wanted & everything else that caught my eye or was on my TBR list was $20+. But while lamenting the fact that a "new" 20 y/o book I wanted was $20, I happened upon these. I fell in love with Saramago earlier in the year when I picked up Death with Interruptions on a whim. Lucky me to find his work on sale again today.
