pickA new series for me with a setting in 1952 Finland where one of newly appointed female police officers Hella Mauzer is sent to a remote northern village where a disappearance leads to possible connections to the ominous soviet neighbour and possible espionage. Hella is a complex but intriguing character and I'm looking forward to reading more about life in the frozen North both in climate and the reaction to women police.
I‘m doing two Nordic Noir reading challenges this month. (Feels like I‘ve been doing my own all year—it‘s been getting me through 2020!) This Finland based historical series is amazing!
Whiskey says he will protect me from all evil things so I need to play and not bother reading the book! This is the start of a new series set in Lapland in 1952 following a female Inspector in the height of the cold war. Hella Maizer is reassigned from Helsinki homicide when she is deemed “too emotional” for the job. Now her new set of problem includes paternalistic attitudes towards women and their abilities. I have read great things about this!
I'm sure it's not like that now (The book's set in the 50s...)
