I‘ve been slowly making my way through the Outlander books this year. They‘re chunksters so I just read a bit at a time. Book 3 clocks in at 1,300 pages so it‘s taken me awhile, but I finally got sucked in this week at 60%. Season 3 is actually my favorite in the show so naturally I loved this one. From Boston to Scotland, the open seas, Jamaica and finally Georgia, Voyager is aptly named and full of adventure. Looking forward to starting book 4!

I love Julia Child, and this popped up in the search results when looking for books about France. I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, I learned about some interesting people, including the Childs (love them!), James Beard and M.F.K. Fisher. On the other hand, the title is very misleading, as this big meeting of these famous cooks and writers only takes place in one chapter of the book. It‘s very repetitive, and the author‘s need ⬇️

JenlovesJT47 To reintroduce us to the main characters multiple times in each chapter really started to grate on my nerves. Some sections were fascinating, like when they would all get together and cook a big dinner. Other parts were incredibly boring. Overall, I‘d give this 2.5 ⭐️ I learned some things so I can‘t say it was a waste. Only recommended for serious foodies or those interested in the lives of these famous cooks/authors. 4d

This definitely gets a pick from me, and I‘m glad I read the climax of the book during broad daylight! 😱 It was a little slow getting going but once I finally got hooked, it was hard to put it down. 4.5⭐️ for me, as I feel like the first 200 pages or so are bogged down with too many characters, which gets confusing. Regardless, I‘d highly recommend this!

Anyone interested in signing up for the #CreepyChristmas swap, mosey on over to @teebe ‘s page for more details.

wanderinglynn I was wondering the same thing. But this is the first Christmas swap I‘ve seen posted. 🤔 1w
ljuliel I just saw a swap but I think it‘s just for folks from Canada ? ( which is fine and dandy , because they sometimes get left out of exchanges if people don‘t t want to mail there due to postage cost). I‘m glad they got one going. I still think Litsy participation/ posts are down a LOT. I was away for awhile and notice it‘s not nearly as busy as it used to be. (edited) 1w
monalyisha @ljuliel It seems the same way to me. I‘ve been busy with school so I haven‘t been checking it as often & it seems a tiny bit less vibrant. I wonder if it‘s the link sensitivity issue? 1w
ljuliel @monalyisha I‘m not sure that‘s it. I‘ve looked down through some of the people who used to post daily , and they haven‘t posted in months. Some like 3 months or longer. Apple did another update a few days ago which has partially fixed the screen sensitivity issue. It still does it a bit but not as bad. I‘m not sure what the problem is unless people just moved on , got too busy, weren‘t getting what they wanted from Litsy ? 1w

I‘m giving this a pick but I had mixed feelings on this one. It‘s the first I‘ve read in this series but I didn‘t feel I was missing out on anything. The mystery was interesting but not hard to figure out. I guess my biggest complaint is they seemed to dumb it down way too much and spell out every little thing the detective was doing instead of letting us use our brains. Still, I‘m interested in reading more of the series. 3.5⭐️

Book 12 in my Phryne Fisher reread is one of the best in the series and one of my favorite episodes on the show as well. I‘d highly recommend this series. 5⭐️

Well, November is here and I‘ve already finished my first Christmas book! 😬 Thought I might as well get started early! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Some of these bookshots are hit or miss, but I love the ones with the French detective Luc Moncrief and his very American partner, K. Burke. These are short and well-paced, and we even got to take a quick jaunt to Paris for Christmas Eve. Love these characters. 4⭐️

I was so excited when I received this from #NetGalley - unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed. I‘ve always been fascinated by the Borden murders. I was expecting either a historical fiction account of the trial or SOMETHING that would hold my attention. It‘s basically a dry recitation of every aspect of the trial. It took me 10 months to read this & was a cure for insomnia many nights. There are still some interesting things here but it could⬇️

JenlovesJT47 Have been so much better! I give the author props for all of the research she did. It just felt like such a missed opportunity. I‘m giving it an extra star for the stellar research. 3⭐️ 2w

I was drawn to this because I love books done in epistolary form. This is a collection of anonymous letters from a popular Tumblr, Dear My Blank. Writing letters that never get sent can be cathartic. Overall, it took me about 30 minutes to read this. It‘s geared more towards teens and young adults and I would recommend it to them. Young love certainly can be the pits! So glad I‘m not in high school anymore. 😆

I was wary going into this because of the mixed reviews of my Goodreads friends, but this story sucked me in and I personally found it excellent. There are two mysteries involved here and one horrific scene of a gruesome crime that will stick with me for awhile. Even though I figured out the twists early on, it didn‘t detract from my enjoyment of the story. 5⭐️ Recommended!

The title of this book is a little misleading. It is a true crime account of a man named John Gilkey, who steals thousands of dollars worth of rare books. IMO, he did it because he‘s a thief, plain and simple, and felt entitled. Still, I‘m giving this a pick because I learned so much about rare books and finished the whole thing in a few hours. StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego #Screamathon is a month long halloween Readathon hosted by @4thhouseontheleft . You can join in anytime! There are other optional activities you can join in on also like the #ScreamathonPhotoChallenge and there was a swap (open date passed already)... The other one I think you had to sign up for, it seems there are teams or something. Hope that helps. 1mo

I reread this so many times when I was younger. Worth the price of admission alone to see Todd, Ken and Winston dress up as girl cheerleaders from Saskatchewan so they can sneak into the cheerleading competition while the girls are at nationals. 😂😅🤣 Tilda Wilkins, Kendall Matthews and Winnie Egbert — what‘s not to love? 😂

AlobelThee This got me finding a similar TV episode, One Big Mesa 😂 as I remember watching a bit of the series. I'm going for the Riverdale costume comedy this Halloween. 📣🤓 1mo

Jess decides to form her own cheerleading squad and recruits Lila, and blackmails Liz into joining her because she found out about her fling with Ken. Heather threw a couple of people off the squad for basically not being good enough in her eyes, so they happily join Jess. Now there are two cheerleading squads and only one squad can go to nationals. Another fun book in the series. Both squads end up being awesome and are forced to merge so they ⬇️

JenlovesJT47 Can go to nationals. Up next is one of my favorite books in the series! #SweetValley #SVH #twins #nostalgia 👯 1mo

Got a bit behind on my reviews. Surgery is no joke!

Jess starts dating Ken Matthews and Liz is secretly fuming. She and Ken had a fling months back and nobody knew about it. Liz is such a bitch in this miniseries. She tries to sabotage Jess because she is jealous and thinks she might still be in love with Ken. 🙄

Meanwhile, Robin is moving away and new girl Heather becomes the new co-captain of the cheerleading squad. She quickly becomes ⬇️

JenlovesJT47 A huge rival of Jess and tries to take over the squad and turn them against her. She finally quits in a huff at the end of the book. I‘ve always loved this miniseries and it did not disappoint. 4⭐️ #SweetValley #SVH #twins #nostalgia 👯 1mo

I just started watching Poldark last week and fell in love. I bought the first 3 books in the series a couple of years ago when they were on sale. Had to dive in shortly after starting the show. Thus far, the show is fairly true to the books. I love being swept away by the saga of the Poldark family. Would highly recommend!

Chrissyreadit I love the TV show also. 1mo
JenlovesJT47 @Chrissyreadit it‘s so good! I have a crush on the doctor 😍 (and Ross of course) 1mo
AlaMich I am nearly finished with Ross Poldark and OMG I love this book sooo much. ❤️❤️ 1mo

This tells of the rivalry of Coco Chanel and Elsa Schiaparelli in the years leading up to WWII. A bit slow in places but definitely worth reading. It‘s told from the POV of a third party, the fictional character of Lily, recently widowed who becomes good friends with both designers. It‘s interesting learning about the different fashions of the day, and of course I‘m always interested in anything set in Paris. 3.5⭐️

I grabbed a bunch of Downton books from the library in anticipation of the movie coming out. The movie was great btw! This is a beautiful coffee table book that is a must for fans of the show. 4⭐️

Even though this story is a bit far-fetched, I found it enjoyable. Colette is on a trip to Paris with some classmates. People are being murdered, beheaded — and she sees the ghost of Marie Antoinette. The queen is taking her rage out on the descendants of those who betrayed her. Pure fluff but very entertaining. 3.5⭐️

LibrarianRyan This has been on my TBR forever. I‘ve just never seen anyone who has read it. Thanks. 2mo
JenlovesJT47 @LibrarianRyan I hope you enjoy it! It‘s a fast read. 🤓 2mo
