He's reckless, dominant, and deliciously dirty. This prince is no fairytale. Prince Ruben of Helgmre is his familys greatest scandal, but the defiant royal wont change for anyone. He always takes what he wants, and his current obsession is Cherry Neita. The feisty beauty has no idea shes being seduced by royaltyuntil theyre caught together in a compromising position. Oops. All Cherry wanted was a night or two with the hottest man shed ever seen. Turns out, that man is actually a prince, and now he needs her to play princess. Well, princess-to-be. The deal seems straightforward enough: one year as Rubens fake fiance, and hell make all her problems disappear. But the passion between Cherry and Ruben feels anything but fake, and their connection unearths devastating secrets. Can true love bloom from false beginnings? Or will this fairytale end in a happy-never-after?

Kind of wanted to bail but gotta hit my year reading goal!!

It wasn‘t that the book was bad. It had moments of tenderness and insight. I liked how to author never made the character self conscious of her body, but made it normal and celebrated. I just felt disconnected from the story and uninterested.

This early Hibbert had a lot more depth than expected. Not a light and fluffy read. Great preview of how she explores issues of race, illness, domestic abuse, and of course, romance.

I don't often read romance, but every so often I really appreciate the change of pace. This is a new author for me but I'm really glad I took the chance. Within the first few pages I was already in love with the general tone. Can't wait to see how it progresses.

I thought at first that this book was going to suffer in comparison to Alyssa Cole's A Prince on Paper. The premises are similar: the rogue prince of a tiny (imaginary) European nation, beloved of tabloids, gets fake-engaged to a Black woman. But the books go in different directions from there. This one is dirtier, for one thing; and where Cole improbably had me rooting for the monarchy, Hibbert shows the whole institution as rotten to its core.

effani There is a lot of kinky sex and a lust-at-first-sight situation, neither of which is my thing, but the emotions and the way the characters work through their problems made it work for me. 4y

A sweet, steamy romance about the younger half-brother of the king of Helgmøre and the British woman he winds up faking an engagement with to save his reputation. Sexy times ensue. But this book also deals with serious issues like anxiety, trauma, and abuse.

⭐️⭐️⭐️After loving Hibbert‘s diverse characters&inclusive romances in the Brown sisters books, I was excited to read her past work, too.Unfortunately, this one wasn‘t a favorite. There is a depiction of domestic violence in this book, &I appreciated Hibbert including a content warning &helpful website/phone numbers in her author‘s note.I will still continue to read anything she writes in the future,so, it didn‘t change how much I love this author.

4.5/5

After a long, stressful work week, all I wanted was to read a fun romance novel to relax, and this was the perfect one. The characters are wonderful as they have to navigate their unexpectedly high pressure relationship. I loved the way the their relationship developed.

TW: child abuse & domestic abuse are referenced

This book was pretty amazing. Fake fiancé, a prince with a heart wrenching childhood, a strong MC. I read it in one night!

Cherry is fabulous. She‘s smart, sassy and strong enough to stand up for herself. She sees Ruben and ends up in an embarrassing situation.

Ruben is a prince, but always seems to be messing up. He is attracted to Cherry right away and tells the paparazzi that she is his fiancé.

Lauren_reading I loved this book. The two were a great couple. Ruben showed his confident side as well as his insecurities. He‘s the sweetest guy, mostly 😉. 4y

As found in Hoopla, the perfect escape for a difficult week. Romance between an educator and a prince, with a fake relationship and family secrets, and a lot of chemistry.

Why is everything that Talia Hibbert writes just pure sparkly gold?

Side note: I recently binged Lucifer and that's who I pictured in my head as Ruben while I read. Especially when he was being all cocky and flirty. Sigh.
