⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I borrowed this after hearing Dunlop speak on Sounds Like a Cult Podcast. This novel, with a Munchausen by Proxy side story, follows Katie, a former competitive skier, who escapes her tumultuous public life for an interlude in Buenos Aires. She bonds with others also seeking escape. Based on the author‘s sister who committed medical child abuse, and tried to keep the book from publication. A solid read!

A good story but had I realized it was about a woman with Munchausens I'd likely have skipped it. The portions in Buenos Aires were very good & Dunlop's writing didn't disappoint.

Solid week of reading, but looking forward to when I have some dedicated time in the coming days.

This is first book I have read by Andrea Dunlop, and I am now going to go back to her backlist. I am not sure how I missed this book, but it 100% in my wheelhouse as this is family drama to it‘s core.

Sometimes I have trouble with split perspectives (past and present) and that happened here. I was ON BOARD for the past perspective, but not so much for the present.

I had to finish it to find out what happened, but I felt this fell short of what I was hoping for.

You shouldn‘t be afraid of the future...there was always going to be an after ⛷💃🏼🍷

If I needed/wanted to run away, Buenos Aires is where I‘d run too. Interesting preface but took a little to long to get to what “it” was, which made it not feel quite as bad as it should have. I liked her time in BA and her skiing history but the rest was too drawn out. I like it but not 5 stars worth.

Beautiful cover for what I am sure some will find as a beautiful story, but I struggled with this one. Katie (Liz) has a traumatic event happen that is somehow related to her sister but it takes most of the book before we figure out exactly what that is.
While I liked parts of her story &thought it well written, I didn‘t really care for Katie &after so many chapters of not finding out what happened with her sister, I stopped caring about that too.
