Holy cow - what a book! What an effort by these authors! If you like historical fiction and awesome female characters, this ABSOLUTELY is the book for you. It's on the longer side (500+) and I would recommend taking your time with it.

My current read. I don‘t remember much of this time in history for school. It definitely has intrigued me and I‘m not quite halfway, but I think this will be a 3-3.5 read.

READ THIS BOOK. It was delightfully creepy and soooo messed up, but so FUN to read!! Yes, there are a lot of characters introduced in the beginning, but there is a system and you figure it out quickly and it's not that big of a deal.

Highly recommend!

Most everyone else is giving this good to really good reviews. I'm clearly in the minority so I hope this doesn't discourage everyone. I don't think this was poorly written, just the story was kind of TV movie for me. It didn't really add anything to the genre, nor detract. It was just kind of there.

A False Report: A True Story of Rape in America | T. Christian Miller, Ken Armstrong

This was a fabulously, well reported story. It was also a really upsetting read, but I think there is a lot of good that comes out of it (changes in procedures/investigation techniques, etc.)

It isn't my most eloquent review, but I think I'm just spent. It can be found here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2982892279

Butterflyamore I read this when it was published under a different title and thought it was an excellent book. 1mo
Hazel0303 @Butterflyamore The title I had was The False Report, but everything keeps defaulting to Unbreakable so I thought I would use the picture most associate with it now. It really was incredible. I think my next True Crime read is going to be American Predator. 1mo
Butterflyamore @Hazel0303 Oh, I see now that the tagged book is A False Report! I just noticed the picture initially. I saw this new cover at Walmart the other day and I was briefly excited, thinking they‘d written another book together. Then I realized it was the same book. I haven‘t read American Predator but I‘ll be interested in seeing what you think of it. 1mo
Hazel0303 @Butterflyamore I know what you mean! I hadn't heard of the book until the series so the Netflix cover is the first time I saw it and made me want to read it. Hope you are enjoying your current read! 1mo

This is a pick, but it comes with conditions. As I say in my review, this is not for the masses and I think the author knows that.

The writing is so good and ultimately I'm glad I read it, but it's a hard book to recommend to others.

Sometimes I have trouble with split perspectives (past and present) and that happened here. I was ON BOARD for the past perspective, but not so much for the present.

I had to finish it to find out what happened, but I felt this fell short of what I was hoping for.

I would DNF this if I wasn‘t already half way. I was so excited to read this and it just isn‘t picking up for me. Anyone else having the same problems? Characters are blending together, what is the point?

Cathythoughts I have it in #hibernation 😬🤷🏻‍♀️ I was hoping for a solid thriller ( nope ) I Did not get past the first chapter 😬 (edited) 4mo
Hazel0303 @Cathythoughts I‘m really struggling. I work in a male dominated corporate environment and I‘m not connecting. I do think the writing is good in parts (particularly on being a woman in today‘s world), but that‘s about it. It‘s like a watered down Big Little Lies. 4mo
marleed I loved it but I did have yo slow down and follow all the characters and their perspectives. I like looking at this discussion from a fictional perspective because I don‘t carry any preceding emotions about those involved. 4mo
Hazel0303 @marleed I‘m glad it worked for you. I think part of my problem is the early struggles I had are hard to shake off. 4mo

Ultimately, this is a very real, in your face look at being a woman. While it's difficult to read at times (not because it's poorly written, but because being a woman is hard and reading that struggle across multiple characters over a time period that wasn't very forgiving to women doesn't make for light reading!!! BUT - it was very well done and I would recommend it to everyone.
